Sinalau Bakas – Exotic smoked Wild Boar meat
On the way to Kundasang from Kota Kinabalu, you will notice few stalls alongside the road with signs displaying “Bakas” or “Sinalau Bakas”. Sinalau means smoked and Bakas mean wild boar in Sabah. The villagers along the road especially Kampung Kelawat area are mostly christian and they hunt for wild boar at the jungle nearby their village for its meat. Sinalau Bakas is a traditional food for the Kadazandusun people of Sabah.

The meat is juicy, tender and full of pork goodness taste. The only seasoning is salt and it bring out the sweet taste of wild boar meat. It taste way better than pork as the wild boar grow in the jungle with lots of running, and they feed on roots, tubers, fruits, nuts, carrion, eggs and insects.
If you happen to pass by the area, do remember to make a stop and taste the exotic wild boar meat at Sabah.
