Sharminder was charged under Section 304(b) of the Penal Code for culpable homicide not amounting to murder, which carries a maximum 10 years’ jail or a fine or both upon conviction.

‘Girlfriend who plunged to death was my future wife’
AMPANG: A car sales adviser pleaded not guilty over the death of his girlfriend after she fell off a cliff at Bukit Permai here last month.
Looking flustered, Sharminder Singh Christi Anthony, 35, blurted out that he did not kill Jaspal Kaur, 28.
Sharminder said it was an accident when asked by Judge Unaizah Mohd on his bail mitigation at the Sessions Court here Friday.
“I did not do anything. It was an accident,” Sharminder said repeatedly, until he had to be reminded by the judge that he was supposed to respond to his bail mitigation.
The father of two whose children, aged 8 and 11 years, was believed to have caused the death of Jaspal at Taman Bukit Permai, Bukit Permai at around 12.15pm on Oct 30.
In pleading for leniency, Sharminder begged for the lowest bail before the judge, saying that he was the sole breadwinner of his family and was also supporting his mother.
“Jaspal would have been my future wife, but unfortunately, an accident happened. The concrete was slippery.
“I also lost someone I loved,” said Sharminder, who was unrepresented and was going through a divorce.

Police arrest man suspected of pushing girlfriend off cliff
Police have arrested a 35-year-old man on suspicion of murder, following an incident where a woman fell to her death from the Bukit Permai lookout point in Cheras, Kuala Lumpur.
The Star Online reported that the suspect was alleged to have pushed the woman, his girlfriend, off the cliff, witnessed by a vendor not far away.
A police source told the news portal said that Jaspal Kaur, 28, and the suspect were on a date on Jalan Bukit Permai 1A when they began to argue at 12.45am, leading to the suspect pushing her over the edge, into a ravine.

Ampang: “Saya tidak tahu apa masalah sebenarnya kerana dia tinggal seorang diri dan jarang balik ke rumah keluarga,” kata Balbir Singh, bapa kepada Jaspal Kaur, 28, yang maut selepas terjatuh di lereng bukit setinggi 50 meter di Taman Bukit Permai, dekat sini, tengah malam kelmarin.
Dalam kejadian jam 12.50 tengah malam itu, mangsa difahamkan bergaduh dengan teman lelakinya sebelum terjatuh di lereng bukit dipercayai selepas ditampar suspek berusia 35 tahun itu.
Balbir, 65, berkata, anak ketiga dari empat beradik itu jarang menghubungi mereka sejak berpindah dari rumah keluarganya di Shah Alam sebaik tamat sekolah menengah.
Sementara itu, Timbalan Ketua Polis Daerah Ampang Superintendan Mohd Nazri Zawawi berkata, hasil siasatan awal mendapati mangsa bergaduh dengan teman lelakinya di tepi bukit berkenaan.
Menurutnya, ketika bertengkar, suspek menampar mangsa sehingga menyebabkan dia terjatuh di lereng bukit.
“Mangsa maut selepas mengalami kecederaan serius di kepala akibat impak terjatuh dari tempat tinggi dan kematian disahkan anggota paramedik yang tiba di lokasi kejadian.
“Teman lelaki mangsa sudah ditahan hari ini (semalam) bagi membantu siasatan lanjut,” katanya ketika dihubungi, semalam.
