Papagomo finally pays RM951,000 for defaming Anwar
KUALA LUMPUR: Controversial blogger Papagomo has settled his outstanding damages amounting to about RM950,000 for defaming former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
The amount — RM950,000 in a bank draft and another RM1,260 in one ringgit notes plus 30 sen — was paid to Anwar’s counsel Latheefa Koya and J Leela in the chambers of High Court deputy registrar Husna Dzulkifli.
Anwar filed the petition on June 30 to recover the money after Papagomo had exhausted the appeal process.
Papagomo, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, said the money was raised from crowd funding over the last three months.
“The money mostly came from Umno members and other well-wishers,” he told reporters.
He said the exact amount due was RM951,260.27 but he gave Anwar an extra three sen “as donation”.
Papagomo’s lawyer Irna Shahana Shamsuddin said Anwar’s lawyers would withdraw the creditor’s petition tomorrow since the due sum had been settled.
Latheefa confirmed she received the bank draft and cash from Papagomo.
“We will have to cash the bank draft to confirm that all the due sum has been settled,” she said.
Besides the RM800,000 in damages awarded to Anwar, there was RM101,000 in interest on the principal amount not paid for the past four years plus legal costs of RM50,000.
HE HAS TO PAY ANWAR IBRAHIM RM800,000 AS WELL.
In June last year, the Federal Court rejected Papagomo’s appeal against the High Court decision that ordered him to pay RM800,000 in damages and RM50,000 in costs to Anwar Ibrahim in relation to publishing words and images defaming the latter and linking him to a sex video.

Papagomo must pay Anwar RM870,000
PUTRAJAYA: Papagomo will have to pay the RM870,000 libel damages awarded to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the Court of Appeal has rejected his bid to challenge the High Court verdict.
A three-man panel, chaired by Chief Judge of Sabah and Sarawak Justice Richard Malanjum, unanimously refused to grant leave to Papagomo to appeal.
The award was granted by a High Court over postings by the blogger, 33, whose real name is Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who tried to implicate the PKR leader in purported indecent acts with another man.
“The application for leave is dismissed with costs as it has no merits. It is factual matrix,” said Justice Malanjum.
The other judges on the panel were Federal Court judges Justices Hasan Lah and Zaharah Ibrahim.

Court orders ‘Papagomo’ to pay Anwar RM800,000
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 ― The Court of Appeal today ordered former police officer Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris to pay Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim RM800,000 in damages over blog posts he published several years ago under the name “Papagomo”.
According to Malaysiakini, the court dismissed the blogger’s appeal against the quantum as well as against the High Court’s decision to find him guilty of libel.
Justice Datuk Rohana Yusuf who led a three-man bench to preside over the matter, reportedly said that the High Court had not erred in its decision as it had found as fact through evidence from another blogger that Papagomo and Wan Muhammad Azri are the same person.
“Hence, the court found there is no error in facts with her decision. With this, the bench also noticed that the memorandum of appeal of Wan Muhammad Azri did not state he is appealing on the quantum.
“Hence, we find there is no reasonable grounds to disturb the High Court’s judge on the quantum. With this, the court dismisses both appeals (on the decision and quantum),” she was quoted saying in the news portal.
According to Malaysiakini, Wan Muhammad Azri was also ordered to pay RM10,000 in costs to Anwar.
Wan Muhammad Azri was found guilty of libel by a High Court here on February 28 last year over posts he made as “Papagomo”, despite his continued denial that he was not the offending blogger.
In the decision then, judicial commissioner Rosilah Yop reportedly declared that Wan Muhammad Azri was indeed the “Papagomo” named in the defamation suit by Anwar and ordered him to pay RM800,000 in damages as well as an additional RM50,000 in costs.

Apex court tells Papagomo to pay RM300,000
The Federal Court affirmed today that Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris is the notorious blogger ‘Papagomo’.
As such, the country’s highest court dismissed the blogger’s application for leave to appeal before Federal Court over a suit filed against him by businessman Abdul Razak Mohd Noor.
With this, Wan Muhammad Azri is required to pay the RM300,000 he was ordered to do for the defamatory postings he made against Abdul Razak.
Wan Muhammad Azri had prior to this denied that he is the blogger Papagomo.
The decision today was made by a five-member panel, led by judge Ahmad Ma’arop.
The other judges were Justices Jeffrey Tan Kok Wha, Hasan Lah, Md Apandi Ali and Azahar Mohamed.
The Court of Appeal had on March 27 this year upheld the defamation suit but reduced the quantum to be paid from RM500,000 to RM300,000.
Wan Muhammad Azri, when met by reporters outside the court said he was trying to get the court’s permission to pay RM100 a month to Anwar because he only worked as a fisherman now.
He said he had also sold his shares at KL POS Media & Production Sdn Bhd.

Papagomo’s appeal to defer payment dismissed
The High Court in Kuala Lumpur today dismissed with costs an application by blogger Papa Gomo to defer payment of RM850,000 in damages and cost to opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim.
Judicial Commissioner Rosilah Yop made the decision in chambers in the presence of lawyer Shahid Adli, representing Anwar, and Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, also known as Papa Gomo, who represented himself.
She set costs at RM5,000.
Shahid told reporters that Rosilah dismissed the application on grounds that there were “no circumstances to grant a stay”.
He said the appeal by Wan Muhammad Azri against Rosilah’s decision in ordering him to pay Anwar RM800,000 in damages and RM50,000 in cost, had been set for case management on June 24.
This was a previous problem:
The Kuala Lumpur High Court declared today that former policeman Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deris, who has been convicted of graft, is the blogger Papagomo and ordered him to pay RM500,000 in a defamation claim.
Judicial Commissioner Vazeer Alam Mydin Meera is quoted by The Star Online as ruling that Wan Muhammad Azri is the blogger Papagomo in a RM10 million defamation suit filed by businessman Abdul Razak Mohd Noor against Papagomo.

NOW THERE IS A WARRANT OF ARREST FOR HIM!
Arrest warrant issued for blogger Papagomo
The Shah Alam Syariah High Court has issued an arrest warrant for Wan Muhammad Azri Wan Deri, who operates the controversial Papagomo blog.
Syariah judge Mohammad Adib Husain made the decision after allowing the application filed by Wan Muhammad’s ex-wife Bellina Omar Sharifuddin Chin that a warrant be issued following the plaintiff’s failure to be present in court.
Wan Muhammad is embroiled in a court case with his ex-wife for transgressing matters pertaining to the custody of the couple’s two daughters.
On Sept 2, the court had ordered the blogger to return the two girls, aged four and two, to his ex-wife, but Wan Muhammad has refused.
