JEALOUSY REARS ITS UGLY HEAD!
The Star paper, owned by the MCA, compares the salaries of the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister on the one hand, with those of the Selangor Mentri Besar and Speaker, on the other, obviously to put a negative light on the latter.
What about including all the perks that the former two receive?
WHY SHOULD THE MENTRI BESAR GET MORE THAN THE PRIME MINISTER?
Well, he’s doing a far better job than the Prime Minister. Also, when you include all the perks of the PM’s job, the invisible costs we have to bear (such as FLOM’s jet trips, the costs involved in their upkeep, etc.), the PM gets far more.
Why should the Speaker get more than the Deputy Prime Minster? Same answer.

PKR de facto leader has proposed that the party’s Selangor assembly representatives, who will enjoy a considerable pay hike next year, contribute a portion of their salaries to the state education fund.
Anwar proposed a quantum of RM1,000 or 20 percent of their salaries to go to the fund for poor children, following a discussion with Selangor MB Khalid Ibrahim.
…
“I want the matter to be resolved soon as the Pakatan Rakyat Council will meet next week,” Anwar said when met at Balik Pulau, Penang.
“By the time I knew about the pay rise, it had already been approved by the Selangor state assembly. So this is a way for state reps to return something to the people,” he explained.

Backbenchers back MB over salary hike amid dissent
|
Despite dissent among the ranks of the Pakatan Rakyat backbenchers club (BBC), it has reaffirmed its support for Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim over plans to increase the salary of Selangor assemblypersons.
However absent from the decisive meeting last night between the BBC and Abdul Khalid was BBC chairperson Azmin Ali, who had publicly opposed the salary hike from RM6,000 to RM11,250 and called for it to be shelved.

Selangor MB says to Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson Azmin Ali, “He may not want to receive the salary. That’s the right of the individual. If (he) doesn’t want to take it, (he) can leave it.”
Take it or leave it! A good reply. If they give you a salary increase, take it. But if you think it’s too high, don’t take it. Or give most of it away.

Selangorians willing to pay for honest gov’t’
YOURSAY ‘We would rather pay our elected rep well to do a good job than to have millions stolen by Umno.’
Huge pay hike coming up for Selangor MB, elected reps
Headhunter: If the state is well-managed and free of corruption like Selangor, the increase in pay for the elected representatives is perfectly acceptable.
This is unlike BN where the salaries are considered loose change because their main income is from corruption.
It would be a nice gesture though if they all agree to donate 10 percent of their paycheck to fund special needs’ projects, not necessarily in Selangor itself.
Well Thats Fantastic: They can run the state with surplus budgets year after year even though the federal government work against them at every turn. They deserve this and more. Perhaps better wages might attract better people to the job as well (I’m talking to BN here).
ApaJadi: They deserve it. We would rather pay our elected rep well to do a good job than to have millions stolen by Umno.
LynMy: I always believe that Singapore has the right strategies – pay their leaders very well, and then be relentless in expecting efficiency and combating corruption.
Not only do they attract the best people in their industry, they are able to keep their corruption level to a minimum. If Selangor could replicate that, then it is worth every sen paid to the leaders.
Really, how could we justify a menteri besar’s salary at RM14,000 a month? A mid-level computer programmer in the private sector earns that amount.
The public want to see savings in the long run, pay the leaders well, and hold them accountable to the highest standard of quality and integrity.
Dark Archon: They deserve it for the work done well, despite the federal government going all out to undo the state government’s efforts. Seriously, the MB used to be from the corporate world and his pay was way higher than this.
Blackmoon: Kalau Pakatan Rakyat buat apa-apa pun, semua di sini sokong. Typical “lembu” being led by strings attached to their noses.
Appum: Blackmoon, don’t you have to pay more for quality goods?
ONG: RM20,250 a month for exco members is nothing to shout about. I know many people with insignificant (insignificant compared with state exco) jobs earning RM10,000-RM15,000 a month.
All these years, the salaries (including ministers’) were kept low under BN because their official remunerations were only a tiny fraction of their total income.
Of course, Blackmoon cannot understand the difference between official and unofficial incomes.
Longjaafar: Actually Blackmoon does not disagree. He (or she?) grudgingly has to agree that these guys are running the state well. That cannot be denied, because the whole world can see and compare with the past.
Happy Malaysian: Longjaafar, like all Pakatan supporters you all need Umno-BN supporters to agree to everything. Well, it looks like it pays to be a state assemblyperson in Selangor.
Abdul Khalid Ibrahim is stingy to spend on the rakyat, but for salaries for the assembly’s folk, no problem. This is a form of corruption as they have the power to raise salaries for themselves.
Satay Satay: The roads are bad in many areas and many streets are dark and gloomy at night. Can more money be used by the government for the benefit of the people instead of increasing the salaries of the elected reps by such a huge amount?
Multiply the monthly pay and you will see that the increases are too high. Can the assessments collected finance the yearly payout? What if they do not? Will the assessment rates be increased then?
How about the increasing number of new developments and incomes from their assessments being used to improve the dark and gloomy conditions of the housing areas in Selangor?
SomebodyElse: I rather they get a big fat cheque for the great work they have done for the people instead of getting something illegitimate under the table.
At least, it will attract more professional people from the corporate sector and the future generation to join politics instead of hooligans and uneducated cowboys.
Hang Tuah PJ: The menteri besar’s salary increased by 106.4 percent – from RM14,175 to RM29,250. RM30,000 is a general manager’s salary in a government-linked company (GLC). The chief executive officer (CEO) gets about RM80,000.
Deputy speaker with RM3,327 salary? That is a head clerk’s pay in a GLC. The increase is long overdue. My salary is in five figures and it is still not enough to live in Kuala Lumpur supporting three children.

Azmin takes on Khalid on salary hike
Selangor backbenchers chief and PKR deputy president Azmin Ali denies claims that the BBC had forced the state government to increase wages.
KUALA LUMPUR: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali is in agreement with Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim in rejecting the quantum of salary granted to Selangor state government officials.
Echoing his party chief, the Gombak MP and Bukit Antarabangsa state rep said the quantum of increase was too high, and said the increase was not instigated by the Selangor legislative backbenchers (BBC) as claimed in some news reports.
“BBC has never asked for an increase of salaries for Menteri Besar, Speaker, Deputy Speaker, Exco members and Selangor assemblymen,” he told reporters in parliament.
“As a proof I have here a memorandum which were signed by me, Dr Rani Osman from PAS and Lau Weng San from DAP dated Oct 7, 2013.
“There was no demand for an increase of salary. However we demanded for the Selangor state to look seriously into matters pertaining to the people,” he said.

S’gor Speaker defends salary increment
Hannah Yeoh dismisses claims that she earns more than the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister, adding that she can declare her assets.
PETALING JAYA: Despite Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim saying that the salary increment for Selangor state government officials is too high, the country’s first female state Speaker, Hannah Yeoh, has defended the hike.
In her Twitter page today, Yeoh disagreed with English daily The Star and Barisan Nasional (BN) representatives who have implied that she earns more than the Prime Minister [Najib Tun Razak] and Deputy Prime Minister [Muhyiddin Yassin].
“(What they said is) far from it. I can declare my assets,” she said.
The Subang Jaya state assemblyperson also launched a veiled tirade against Najib’s wife Rosmah Mansor, saying that she does not own diamonds nor private jets.
“I co-own one terrace house with my husband and one Kia Sorento. No other side-income. No diamonds. No contracts. No private jets,” she said in her tweet.

Salary hike to stop lawmakers going for extra income
The salary hike for elected representatives of Selangor is meant to stop the lawmakers making extra income, Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said today
“This income (hike) is suitable for the people’s representatives and state executive councillors as they will no longer need to find extra income from outside. This has happened (before),” Khalid told the media at the state assembly complex today.

LOOK AT WHO IS COMPLAINING!
It’s Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein. He is not exactly scrimping and scrounging to save the rakyat’s money, is he?
Remember what he said when the Government were about to introduce a 12-year lifespan for cars?
This is what he said:
“12-year lifespan on cars won’t hurt Malaysians”
Why doesn’t he talk to Najib and FLOM about looking after the interest of the rakyat?

The upcoming pay hike for the Selangor lawmakers shows that its Pakatan Rakyat-led government is more interested in their own welfare than those of the people, said Umno vice-president Hishammuddin Hussein.
..
“Their move not only neglects the people’s hardships, but prioritises their own position. Even if they backtrack now, it will not be sincere but due to political considerations,” he said.

The NST, owned by You-know-who, reports the issue negatively.
In its report, it says
1. ‘The move, which will make the Selangor reps among the highest paid politicians in the country, could come under fire from various quarters as ordinary people struggle to cope with the rising cost of living.’
My question: Are Selangor politicians, both PKR and Opposition, NOT struggling with the rising cost of living?
2. Its headline says, Selangor folk demand answers for reps’ pay hike.
My question: Which Selangor folk did you ask? How many? The NST named two, a 79-year-old pensioner from Section 17, Petaling Jaya, who wanted to be known only as Hassan and Kajang resident Shahrom Mohd Harun, 67.
Gosh! Two people are Selangor folk, indeed.

HUGE PAY HIKE COMING UP FOR SELANGOR MB, ELECTED REPS
——————————————————————-

There’s a difference of course. The God-fearing and duty-bound MP will be ploughing back their money into the rakyat for the rakyat’s sake. So they will need all the money that they can earn to help those around them. Plus they can use some of it for their own to enjoy. They won’t be pocketing the money and let the rest of the people suffer. Instead a major portion of their money earned will go towards their work and their support staff. They can’t do the job alone. It’s a whole team effort. They work hard to make a better Malaysia, so why the heck not raise their salary? After all they’re doing a GREAT job and we are indebted to these few good men and women. Contrast that with a pay hike for a corrupt and incompetent government servant/MP/minister/representative who’s already on the gravy train at the expense of the rakyat. Now can you see the difference?
