Each school day begins with ‘special prayers’….Still, a Star report says, there are at least three cases of hysteria outbreaks a day.

Hysteria school starts the day with special prayers

KOTA BARU: Almost all the students in Form 1 to Form five of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 have had to miss the first class period over the past month to dedicate the time to special prayers after daily outbreaks of mass hysteria.

They skip the first class session each day to take part in prayers to rid the school of “bad spirits”, which are said to be behind the hysteria spells that have affected more that 150 students since April 12.

Some students reportedly saw “pontianak (vampire)” or “pocong (shrouded ghost)” before they experienced body possession episodes.

Many ustaz, Islamic traditional healing experts to bomoh and “ghostbusters” from Perak have been brought in to carry out cleansing rituals, but to no avail.

Police officers have also been sent to the school to counsel the students.

Still, there are at least three cases of hysteria outbreaks a day.

Hysteria victims claim to have seen ‘pontianak’ before fainting

KOTA BARU: Several students of a school in Kelantan, who claim to have been possessed during a hysteria attack, all said they saw a ghostly figure before passing out.

They claimed they saw an unsightly dark figure or female ghost known as a pontianak before they experienced paralysis and then fainted.

Fatin Nor Atikah, 17, of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 1, said she was possessed twice in the school toilets when she was in Form Three and Form Four.

During both incidents she saw a black spectre that was hard to describe more accurately.

“The spectre was so ugly that I went into fits and felt paralysed, like I was being pinned down by an unseen force.

“In both cases, I fainted for several hours. I was later revived by an ustaz in the school.

“The experiences had so shaken me that every time I go to the toilet I bring a friend along.

“Otherwise I avoid going to the toilets,” she said.

Fatin was one of the many students stricken by the hysteria that swept across a few schools in the state last week.

‘Black figure’ reportedly seen by pupils and teachers of SMK Pengkalan Chepa.

PENGKALAN CHEPA: Screaming and shouting continued to be heard at SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 secondary school where more than 50 pupils and teachers have reportedly suffered mass hysteria, in which a “black figure” was seen.

The school, with an enrolment of 1,044 pupils and 84 teachers, was closed on Thursday, after three days of hysteria attacks, and reopened this morning under the observation of several religious teachers and Islamic medical practitioners.

However, Star Online said that waiting reporters and photographers outside the compound heard more screaming and shouting and again at 11am. They were not allowed to enter the school.

Earlier in the week, the principal, Siti Hawa Mat, had said that all the victims claimed to have seen a “black figure”. She told reporters that 25 pupils suffered the hysteria attacks on Monday, and 50 pupils and 11 teachers on Wednesday.

Eight more female students struck by hysteria

KOTA BARU: Eight more female students of SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 were struck by what is believed to be mass hysteria despite the work of several ustaz and a Chinese bomoh to rid the school of bad spirits.

The girls were suddenly overwhelmed after two hours of reciting Quran verses and special prayers were conducted by all the students at the open hall on Sunday.

The school was hit by mass hysteria last Monday, affecting more than 100 students – female and male – and teachers and it was shut down on Thursday.

Several sceptical students said they managed to capture images of a white spectre resembling a pocong (ghostly figure encased in a shroud) at the school canteen, the hall and classrooms on Saturday night.

A student who declined to be named said a female schoolmate who was “possessed” the second time jumped off a flight of stairs at the third floor of the school, but luckily her fall was broken by several male students who were at the bottom of the staircase.

“She was supposed to skip classes today and I cannot understand why she came to school after being possessed,” she said.

Another student, who wanted to be identified only as Ina, said her parents did not allow her to attend school on Sunday after she was struck by hysteria last week.

KOTA BARU (THE STAR/ASIA NEWS NETWORK) – The gates of a school in Malaysia’s state of Kelantan, where students have been plauged by “mass hysteria”, were closed to reporters on Sunday (April 17) – the day the school was set to reopen – but screams were heard coming from the classrooms.

SMK Pengkalan Chepa 2 was shut down for three days last Thursday to allow bomohs, ustaz and Islamic traditional practitioners to rid the place of bad spirits.

It does not seem to be working.

Pressmen and photographers, who were stationed in front of the school, were shocked to hear the screaming and shouts emanating from the school compounds.

The school administration has conducted a two-hour recital of Quranic verses and held prayers together with the students.

It is learnt that a Chinese bomoh from Perak and his team entered the school compounds to assist in the situation.

At about 11.30am, more screams and shouts were heard, and attempts by the media to enter the school were unsuccessful.

Last Monday to Wednesday, more than 100 female and male students and teachers were allegedly struck by mass hysteria to the extent that the school was forced to shut down on Thursday to avoid more students from being possessed.

School principal Siti Hawa Mat and district education officials could not be reached for comment on Sunday.
