Pinoy boxing icon Manny Pacquiao blows kisses to his adoring fans after beating American Timothy Bradley in a re-match for the World Boxing Organisation title in Las Vegas on Saturday. Pacman won on a unanimous decision. – AFP

LAS VEGAS (AFP): Manny Pacquiao won a 12-round unanimous decision over Timothy Bradley on Saturday to avenge his controversial 2012 loss to the previously unbeaten American.

The Filipino ring icon improved to 56-5 with two drawn and 38 wins inside the distance as he regained the World Boxing Organization welterweight world title he lost to Bradley on June 9, 2012.

Although he couldn’t get his first knockout win since 2009, Pacquiao lived up to his pre-fight promise to come out with more aggression, denying Bradley’s avowed aim of sending him into retirement with another defeat.

“I think I can go another two years,” said Pacquiao, who has won world titles in an unprecedented eight weight divisions. “I’m so happy to be world champion again. Tim Bradley was not an easy fight.”

Macao (AFP) – Asian boxing superstar Manny Pacquiao will not only have the support of a Filipino-packed crowd when he fights Brandon Rios on Sunday, but also a phalanx of celebrity cheerleaders, led by David Beckham.

The former England football captain will be joined at the Macau ringside by a number of celebrity guests for the fight, including Oscar-wining actor and director George Clooney, Sands China CEO Ed Tracy confirmed.

Reality TV star Paris Hilton and Daniel Wu and Eddie Peng will also be at ringside, while American rap superstar 50 Cent is also strongly rumoured to be flying in to see “Pac-Man’s” comeback fight.

Singing star Alicia Keys, who has been performing concerts at the Venetian Resort where the bout will take place, is also expected to attend.

TV schedule: The welterweight boxing match between Manny Pacquiao and Brandon Rios can be seen on HBO pay per view for $59.99 plus $10 for the HD version at 9 p.m. Saturday. The undercard fights begin at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, Pacquiao, 34, will attempt to prove naysayers wrong when he takes on Brandon Rios, an American boxer seven years his junior, at Cotai Arena in Macau.

Pacquiao, who has won 10 world titles in eight weight classes, has been consistently ranked as one of the best pound-for-pound boxers in his generation.

Rios, nicknamed “Bam-Bam” for his straight-ahead style, has only lost once, a unanimous decision to Mike Alvarado in March.

Some critics believe Rios’s style is tailor-made for the lightning-quick Pacquiao, a notion Rios brushes off.

Manny Pacquiao training ‘like a 20-year-old’

GENERAL SANTOS CITY, Philippines — Boxing hero Manny Pacquiao says he is furiously training like a 20-year-old to break a losing streak and re-establish his reputation as one of the world’s best fighters.

Pacquiao also said his match against American Brandon Rios in the Chinese territory of Macau next month would be “a good window” to promote boxing in China, and that he felt honored to take part in the landmark bout.

“This training camp, I believe, is one of the longest preparations in my boxing career. I trained early because I want to prove that I can still fight in the top (tier) of boxing,” he told reporters late Wednesday in his home town of General Santos in the southern Philippines.

“This time my preparation is more serious, more focused. My mind is like when I was 20 years old.”

A former champion in an unprecedented eight weight divisions, Pacquiao, who turns 35 in December, is seeking to come back from two consecutive defeats which have led supporters to question if he should hang up his gloves.

He lost a controversial split decision to American Timothy Bradley in June last year, then suffered a sixth-round knockout to Mexican arch rival Juan Manuel Marquez six months later.
