Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said, “Our initial investigations revealed that the man had shot himself in the head. However, we will conduct a detailed investigation into the matter.”
Khalid was responding to an allegation by the father of the dead man that an autopsy report from Hospital Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah stated that the 22-year-old victim died of head injuries after being shot.
Abdul Nasir Abdullah, 50, had said that the report contradicted with a police statement that his son died after hitting his head on the steering wheel. He did not rule out taking legal action against the police.

IGP: Police negligence led to death of youth
GEORGE TOWN: The incident where a man died after crashing a police highway patrol car he stole earlier was due to policemen’s negligence, said Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar.
“We will carry out a detailed investigation before taking action against the policemen involved.
“We are also trying to determine if Muhd Nasrulfahmi Abdul Nasir died because of the crash or the shooting by my two policemen.
“I will not protect my men if they have made a mistake. The standard operating procedures are there and they failed to follow them,” he said after launching the Malaysian Crime Prevention Foundation Penang branch outreach programme at Queensbay Mall.
