Drunken French teenagers abduct a circus llama and take him on a tram ride

A group of five French teenagers have been arrested after drunkenly stealing a circus llama named Serge and taking on him on a tour of Bordeaux via the city’s tram system.

The animal was abducted by the youths early on Thursday morning after they wandered into a closed-down circus. The quintet had recently exited a club in Bordeaux, a city renowned as the country’s wine capital.

A llama called Serge was reportedly kidnapped from a circus in France by a group of revellers that decided to take him for a walk through the streets of Bordeaux and then on to a tram.

The five men, who had just exited a nightclub in Bassins à Flot, are said to have documented their trip in a series of photos posted online.

One of the snaps showed the clubbers posing with the animal on a street while the other displayed a rather lonely looking Serge in a near-empty tram.

Although the men initially escaped the scene after tying the eight-year-old beast to a lamppost, the authorities eventually caught up with them.They will now face charges having already spent a few hours in jail following their arrest.Serge was not injured and is back home, but the director of the circus will not let the matter lie.

He said: ‘The offence is too serious: a zebra nearly escaped from the cage. We had to run everywhere to catch it.’
