AS retains Sg Limau with lower majority
SG LIMAU Mohd Azam Samat (PAS), 37, has beaten Ahmad Sohaimi Lazaim (Umno), 53, with a majority of 1,084. The seat was won by PAS in May with a 2,774 majority.
The seat is considered a PAS stronghold because it was won by the late Azizan Abdul Razak for five elections in a row.

Students who register as voters using the address of traditional Islamic schools in Sungai Limau constituency, but originate from elsewhere, have been blamed for BN’s defeat in the by-election today.
Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir said this would explain why a rural area such as Bukit Besar would have a large amount of voters.
“We are aware that there are a lot of traditional schools in the area, but they shouldn’t have hundreds of voters registered there,” he told reporters at the BN command centre at Sungai Kering.

SG LIMAU The polling stations are now closed and ballots are being counted. Official results are expected by about 10pm but Malaysiakini will be keeping tabs on the unofficial results until then.

7.40pm: The unofficial tally from PAS and BN has indicates that PAS is set to retain the Sungai Limau seat with a reduced majority.
According to BN’s tally, PAS raked in 12,068 votes while BN had 10,985. If this figure is accurate, it means that PAS won by a slim majority of 1,083.

1.15PM, Yan – Kedah police confirms that it received a report on an incident in which a Wanita Umno member was allegedly punched at Ulu Sedaka in Yan.
According to Bernama, Bandar Baru Sentul Wanita Umno division chief Norsidah Abu Bakar was allegedly punched by a PAS supporter when canvassing for votes outside the SK Ulu Sedaka polling centre earlier this morning.
The report on the 8.45am incident was lodged by Seputeh Wanita Umno chief Azizah Abdul Samad and Kedah police chief Ahmad Ibrahim says the case is being investigated under Section 354 for Assault or use of criminal force to a person with intent to outrage modesty.
The victim is currently being treated at Hospital Yan.

SG LIMAU The widow of the late former Sg Limau assemblyperson Azizan Abdul Razak has expressed regret that a fake SMS has been sent out in her name.
According to Faekah Sheikh Hamzah, the fake SMS contained a message purportedly from her urging Sg Limau voters to vote for BN.
“The SMSes were discovered at about 11pm last night,” she said when met at SMK Bukit Besar, where she went to cast her vote.
“I hope the person responsible for circulating the fake SMS will face the consequences from Allah,” she added.
“The person who did this malicious act has no manners and has undermined the dignity of his or her parents,” she added.
A PAS supporters accompanying Faekah showed the press the fake SMS, which reads:
“Saya ralat orang PAS sanggup hina arwah Ustaz Azizan dengan naikkan patung potong kaki.
“Saya dan ahli keluarga ajak orang Sungai Limau undi BN.”
Faekah said she will leave it to her lawyer to act accordingly about the fake SMS.

BN lodges police report over provocative mannequin legs
YAN (Nov 2, 2013): Barisan Nasional (BN) has lodged a police report over the provocative mannequin legs being put up near several BN operation centres here today.
Jerai Umno chief Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, said the legs were found hanging from road signs and traffic lights near BN tents in Bukit Besar, Titi Batu and Simpang Tiga in Sungai Limau Luar at around noon today.
It is learnt that the mannequin legs, from the waist down with one of the legs amputated, were written with words ‘kaki ustaz’ (ustaz’s legs), implying the condition of the former Sungai Limau assemblyman the late Tan Sri Azizan Abdul Razak whose legs were amputated due to diabetes.

Parts of mannequins were found near Barisan Nasional (BN) camps in Sungai Limau today, in what has been described as an attempt by irresponsible groups to create tension before the by-election.
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Jamil Khir Baharom said they were spotted hanging from trees near the BN centres in Bukit Besar and Titi Batu.
He said a police report on the matter has been lodged.

This is not the first time the former Kedah MB’s amputation became campaign fodder, earlier Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin kicked up a storm when he joked about the matter in justifying the rise in sugar prices due to the abolition of subsidies.
Muhyiddin eventually apologised followign demands from PAS.

The Sungai Limau by-election campaign took a tasteless turn as two replicas of an amputated leg are each spotted hanging at two towns in the constituency.
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Jamil Khir Baharom who called for an urgent press conference to reveal this today, described it as an awkward and disgusting act.
The late Sungai Limau rep Azizan Abdul Razak had his two legs amputated in Penang Hospital due to diabetes.
He passed away on Sept 26, leaving the seat vacant for the present by-election.
“This is a conspiracy to instil hatred among the locals against BN,” he said, adding that this had nothing to do with the coalition.

SG LIMAU The son of the late Sg Limau assemblyperson Azizan Abdul Razak has demanded an apology from Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin over his statement related to his dad’s diabetes condition.
Azizan’s son Muhammad Rafi’ie said he represents the two families to voice out their sadness about Muhyiddin’s (left) comment.
Azizan had two wives, and their families have members in both BN and PAS. Rafi’ie is the fifth son from the first wife.

SG LIMAU Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today justified abolishing the sugar subsidy by pointing to former Kedah mentri besar the late Azizan Abdul Razak, whose legs were amputated due to diabetes prior to his death on Sept 26.
“The problem with Malaysia is, we’re prosperous.
“Those who died are destined by Allah, but in this world, many are eating a lot at the same time taking a lot of sugar, until……I don’t have to elaborate much about the late (Azizan, right).
“Because of this (consuming sugar), he is forced to go through the process where his legs had to be amputated,” Muhyiddin said.
The DPM was trying to justify the subsidy cut, saying the government wanted to control the people’s high sugar consumption as it led to health problems.
