Now, ex-commercial crimes chief sues AG, ex-IGP and 10 others

Former Commercial Crimes Investigation Department chief Datuk Ramli Yusoff is suing 12 people for malicious prosecution of corruption charges brought against him six years ago. Among those involved in the RM128.5 million lawsuit include Attorney General Tan Sri Abdul Gani Patail and former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan.

The other defendants include the government, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the AG’s Chambers prosecution head Datuk Nordin Hassan, several MACC officers, and the police.

Ramli alleged that the defendants conspired against him, had malicious intent, conducted false investigations and abused their powers, among others.

He said the result of the prosecution was a damaged reputation and a denied advancement in his career.

‘Shocked’ Musa Hassan will defend ‘puzzling’ suit

2:47PM Nov 3, 2013

Lawyers for former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan have vowed to defend a new lawsuit brought by senior cop Ramli Yusuff despite a settlement on a related case just two days before that.

In a statement today, lawyer Shaharudin Ali said his client Musa Hassan had already apologised to Ramli, who is former commercial crime investigation director, in a defamation suit.

“The apology that was made in the chambers of a Shah Alam judge was made without any admission of guilt, which was perfectly accepted by Ramli (left).

Both shook hands like true gentleman before the learned judge. An amicable settlement, to an extent, preserve relationships and the good name of both parties,” he said.

However, Shaharudin said the latest legal action by Ramli was “puzzling” and defied this philosophy.

Ex-top cop files suit against AG, ex-IGP and MACC

Six years ago today, former commercial crime investigation department director Ramli Yusuff was hauled to the Sessions Court in Kuala Lumpur on five charges, in which he was fully vindicated after a long and protracted battle.

Today he named attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail and 11 others in a RM128.5 million suit for malicious prosecution.

Ramli, 61, also named former inspector-general of police Musa Hassan, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission, the Attorney-General’s Chambers head of prosecution Nordin Hassan, previously Anti-Corruption Agency prosecution chief, several MACC officers, the police and government as defendants.

The former top cop’s legal action stems from the acquittals he secured in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah and after the government failed to restore his various rights and privileges as a top government official. Ramli (right) was ranked number 3 in the police force when he was arrested.

I’m doing this for the men in blue, says Ramli

Former Commercial Crime Investigation Department (CCID) director Ramli Yusuff said his RM128 million legal action which he filed today is not for himself but for the betterment of the “men in blue”.

“The police force were demoralised at one stage from the moment a three-star general like me and my men were charged. Sometimes they are worried to use their own discretion to react.

“I plead for the police force to be more courageous and to fight for the cause (against crime). I am doing this for the sake of the ‘men in blue’, that is for the betterment of the police force. I thought of giving them moral courage so they would not be demoralised that I was charged,” he said.
