Fishcake seller lured into blackmail

BATU PAHAT: A market stall trader was forced to cough up RM6,000 to a trio of women after following one of them back to her hotel room.

The 63-year-old man, who has been selling fishcakes at the Batu Pahat wholesale market for the past 40 years, was approached by a young woman, at the market on Oct 6 at around 4.25pm.

Both of them flirted with each other after which the woman asked him to accompany her back to the hotel.

As the man entered the room, two other women, believed to be the suspect’s mother and sister, came barging into the room.

The two women then took photos of the man and threatened to call the authorities if he did not give them money.

Batu Pahat OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Wahib Musa, who confirmed the case, said the victim had handed over RM6,000 to the women as he did not want the matter to escalate further.

He said one of the suspects called the victim again on Oct 8 and demanded another RM3,000.
