He came to Anwar’s birthday do, he sang, and the police want to ‘talk to him’…They want to ‘talk to’ Fahmi Fadzil and others, too.

PKR Youth Information Chief Lee Chean Chung sang this song.

South China Morning Post, in a Dec 7, 2013 article, said the 1991 track Glorious Days had become a Cantonese anthem for idealistic youth and is from beginning to end a homage to Mandela.

PKR’s Lee Chean Chung and Fahmi Fadzil are first of 10 to 15 people expected to be called in for questioning by the police.

SUNGAI BULOH: Police today called in for questioning two men believed to have been involved in celebrating the birthday of former Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim outside the prison.

Police are expected to call about 10 to 15 individuals in connection with the birthday celebration on Aug 10 by family members and friends of Anwar outside the gates of the Sungai Buloh prison.

PKR Youth Information Chief Lee Chean Chung, one of the two called in today, was asked to give a statement at the Sungai Buloh police headquarters for allegedly singing a song titled “Glorious Days” performed by Hong Kong rock band Beyond.

“I sang a Beyond song that was written in tribute to Nelson Mandela. What’s wrong with this song? What’s wrong with Nelson Mandela?

“Someone drew cartoons, he was charged. Someone spoke, he was charged. Someone flew yellow balloons, she was charged. Now, singing is a crime.

“One day, thinking will also be a crime,” Lee told reporters outside the Sungai Buloh police headquarters.

PETALING JAYA: Something is wrong with the country when singing a Cantonese song written in tribute to Nelson Mandela can be considered a crime, according to PKR Youth Information Chief Lee Chean Chung.

Speaking to FMT, Lee said the government has suppressed the voices of the people by charging them in court for sedition but he never thought that he would face similar charges for simply singing a song.

“What more a Cantonese song that talks about freedom and is a tribute to Nelson Mandela.

“What’s wrong with Nelson Mandela? Is the Malaysian Government offended by something that happened in a different continent?”

Lee, who is also the Semambu assemblyman, had issued a statement on his Facebook page revealing that he had been called in by the Sungai Buloh police to record his statement regarding his attendance at Anwar Ibrahim’s 69th birthday bash in front of the Sungai Buloh Prison on Aug 10.
