3 civil servants detained by MACC, assets worth over RM13m sealed and frozen (Updated)

KUALA LUMPUR: Three public servants — one of them a “Datuk” and another a “Datuk Seri” — were detained today by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Agency (MACC) for corruption, abuse of power and money laundering.
Its director of Investigations, Datuk Azam Baki said the three, serving in a government department, a local authority and a government-linked company respectively, were arrested in Kuala Lumpur, Malacca and Kelantan.
The three, in their 50’s, were apprehended in a simultaneous operation conducted between noon and 2pm, he said in a statement.
“Following their arrest, the accounts of the three individuals amounting to more than RM13 million have been frozen, comprising savings accounts and unit trusts worth between RM1 million and RM6 million of each of the three arrested.
“Also sealed were several luxurious condominium units including penthouses, bungalows and posh cars like Maserati, BMW and Audi, believed to be from the proceeds of corruption and money laundering,” said Azam.
He said cash amounting to about RM400,000 and several expensive watches were discovered in the operation.

In one of the raids conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) leading to the arrest of two Datuk Seri and a Datuk today, they found stash of money hidden all over the house including in the ceiling.
The bulk of the money, said to be some of the RM400,000 recovered, was packed carefully in RM50 and RM100 notes and hidden in the ceiling, as officers from the graft commission inspected the house.
Sources from the MACC told Malaysiakini the money was retrieved from a state Public Works Department director with the title of a ‘Datuk’.
As for the luxury cars, the sources said that they were parked at the homes of the suspect’s relatives. It was reported that the MACC seized a Maserati, BMW and Audi cars in the raid.
It is learnt that the ‘Datuk Seri’ is attached to a local council, while the other is with the state Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

MACC detains three high-level government officials
KUALA LUMPUR: Three high-level government officials, including a Datuk and a Datuk Seri have been detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) this Monday.
The three have been detained for allegedly accepting bribes, misuse of power and being involved in money laundering.
