Johor cops shoot dead man who held ceramic shopowner hostage

BATU PAHAT: A man who held a ceramic shop proprietor hostage in Ayer Hitam here Thursday night was shot dead by police after he tried to shoot the victim, a 53-year-old woman.

Johor CID chief Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the 44-year-old suspect was believed to have entered the shop at 8.20pm and demanded money from the victim.

Failing to get the cash, the suspect confined the victim in a room at the shop. Police tried to negotiate with him for four hours.

BATU PAHAT: Police shot dead an armed man after a three-hour hostage standoff at a shop in Ayer Hitam at 8.30pm last night.

The incident at the Ah Son Pottery Centre ended when the man, who was armed with two guns failed in his attempt to demand for a RM300,000 ransom for the release of the 53-year-old pottery seller.

Police stormed the premises and shot the 44-year-old suspect after he turned even more aggressive.
