Robbers caught after selfie betrays location to cops

Pontian police managed to catch two armed criminals who robbed a Pakistani national after a selfie they took with the victim’s phone betrayed their location to cops, reports Sinar Harian.

In the incident, which reportedly took place two days ago at 4.30pm, two male suspects held a Rambo-style combat knife to the victim’s neck and forced him to hand over his ASUS phone and RM1,000 in cash.

However, a police source told the Malay daily that the suspects’ decision to take a selfie with the victim’s phone after the crime proved to be their downfall.

In less than 24 hours, cops from the Pontian district police headquarters Criminal Investigations Department raided locations in Pekan Nanas and Kayu Ara Pasong to apprehend both suspects.

Two other suspects believed to be involved in other robberies in the area were also apprehended. The suspects are aged between 17 to 20 years old.

Police also recovered the victim’s phone, and confiscated the combat knife believed to be used in the robbery.
