Judges send man who fixed spy camera in model’s home to prison

PUTRAJAYA: The man who trespassed and installed a spy camera in model Nasha Aziz’s rented apartment six years ago will spend six months in Kajang Prison after he failed in his final appeal to quash his conviction.

Supervisor cum maintenance manager Ahmad Bakhtiar Abdul Kayoom was to serve the sentence from yesterday.

A three-man Court of Appeal bench, led by Court of Appeal President Tan Sri Zaki Tun Azmi, unanimously upheld the conviction and jail term meted out on Ahmad Bakhtiar by a magistrate’s court in 2004.

Ahmad Bakhtiar was given a stay of execution on his sentence and released on a RM10,000 bail pending disposal of his appeal.

Target of crime: The spy camera in Nasha’s apartment was secretly installed by Ahmad Bakhtiar.

Zaki said there was no miscarriage of justice although magistrate Ida Hanani Abdul Karim resumed hearing the case after she had been transferred to the Attorney-General’s Chambers as Federal Counsel in the drafting section.

In upholding the sentence, Zaki said: “Ahmad Bakhtiar destroyed someone’s privacy.”

The others on the bench were Court of Appeal judges Datuk James Foong and Datuk K.N. Segara.

Ida Hanani found Ahmad Bakhtiar, 31, guilty of two charges of trespassing into the apartment rented by Nasha, whose real name is Noraisha A. Aziz, and intruding upon her privacy by installing a closed-circuit camera between the month of April and July in 2002.

Ahmad Bakhtiar was sentenced to six months’ jail for each offence. However, Ida Hanani ordered him to serve the jail terms concurrently.
