Kenyans sweep the Penang Bridge run

GEORGE TOWN: Kenya made a complete sweep of both the men’s and women’s Open categories in the Penang Bridge International Marathon on Sunday.
James C. Tallam, competing for the second time in the championships, emerged champion of the men’s Open when he clocked 2’24:40.31. Joseph Gitau Kariuki was second in 2’25:40.99 while Issac Kiplagat Kimayio clocked 2’25:57.66 to finish third.
“I was determined to win after feeling so disappointed with my third-place finish in my maiden appearance in 2010. Now that I have fulfilled my dream, it has made me feel so good about this win,” said the 27-year-old Tallam.
In the women’s Open, Naomi Wambui Muriuki clocked 2’53:02.78 to emerge champion. Cecilia Wangui Warutumo was second in 3’11:17.79 while Caroline Kigen clocked 3’14:52.45 for third spot.

Penang bridge to be temporarily closed to traffic on Sunday
GEORGE TOWN: The Penang Bridge will be temporarily closed to all traffic from 1am to 10am on Sunday, Nov 17, in conjunction with the Penang International Bridge Run.
Projek Lebuhraya Usahasama Bhd (PLUS) in a statement Thursday said the bridge would be closed for traffic from 1am to 10am.
The statement added that a number of roads leading to the bridge would also be closed for the same period to prevent any disruption during the run.
Motorists entering or leaving the Island are urged to use the Ferry services that will be in service for 24 hours.
“Motorists must follow the signage and direction put up by PLUS,” said PLUS in the statement.

Perhaps, it was the broad & bold vision of the then prime minister of Malaysia, Dr Mahathir that the mega scale construction could be realize.
