KLANG: Mohamad Sabu, whose oratory skills were widely credited for winning over voters in the Malay heartland in the general election, says he can speak his mind as he is in the opposition once again.

The Amanah president and former defence minister, better known as Mat Sabu, said there was no longer any protocol to adhere to unlike when he was in government.

At a ceramah here last night, Mohamad said it has been a while since he was able to address a crowd in his signature style, adding that many people had lamented that they did not enjoy his speeches during his tenure as minister.

“When you are a minister, you have to make sure you have the facts. Now we can start to attack,” he said.

Mohamad said PH was prepared for Parliament to be dissolved to challenge the new ruling coalition.

“If they feel they are strong and confident, then dissolve Parliament. If we lose, we are prepared to be the opposition,” he said.

The Kota Raja MP wondered why BN could not wait for the next general election to wrest Putrajaya back from PH, seeing that it had won the last few by-elections.

“Why couldn’t you wait? We waited for 60 years, why couldn’t you wait for five?” he said.

Mat Sabu: Muhyiddin and gang will find it tough to face the rakyat

Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin and his cohorts in the new Perikatan Nasional government are not going to find it easy to face the people given how his administration was formed, said Amanah president Mohamad Sabu.

As defence minister in the outgoing Pakatan Haparan government, Mohamad, or better known as Mat Sabu (above), said he had received information about Muhyiddin’s plans to establish a Malay-dominated cabinet.

“Harapan won the election but is now the Opposition, those who lost are now in control.

“This has never happened anywhere in the world except in my homeland of Malaysia,” claimed Mat Sabu at a Harapan roadshow in Klang last night.

He said Muhyiddin and gang would not find it easy to face the rakyat that has been “awakened” by what has happened.

“We are not happy that the government was stolen halfway through its term. If we were not good, why not wait five years?”

Also present were PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and DAP National Organising secretary Anthony Loke.

Mat Sabu added that Harapan would use the constitution and seek legal redress in its attempt to restore the government formed at the ballot box in May 2018.

On March 1, Muhyiddin was appointed the eighth prime minister to replace Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

The collapse of the Harapan administration was precipitated by Muhyiddin leading Bersatu out of the coalition, in collusion with a group of PKR MPs led by former party deputy president Azmin Ali.

Muhyiddin has now formed the Perikatan Nasional government with the support of Umno, PAS, Gabungan Parti Sarawak and other smaller parties.
