Many suspicious, upset about tomorrow’s red shirt rally

Many Malaysians are suspicious and upset about the Sept 16 red shirt rally by pro-Umno groups but are merely voicing out their dissatisfaction on the social media.

Founder of Concerned Cybercitizens Worldwide Malaysia, Adrian Lim Chee En, feels these people should do more to promote racial integration and diversity than just being cyber-warriors, criticising and condemning others.

Lim on his part is determined to move on this, despite being detained by police on Aug 13, together with another Bersih 2.0 volunteer Mohd Faddhli Abdul Jaid, for hoisting the Bersih 4 rally launch banner at a roundabout near the Petaling Jaya Civic Hall.

Lim has found a way to counter the racially-slanted red shirt rally themed ‘Perhimpunan Rakyat Bersatu”, which has just been declared legal by the police as the group has agreed to hold the event in Padang Merbok.

Since yesterday, he has been using several Facebook pages and Twitter accounts to flood the social media with photographs that speak of Malaysia’s peace and harmony among the different races.

He is urging the social media community to participate in this effort by sending him pictures that best describe racial harmony with the caption #WeAreMalaysian, which he will upload on a dedicated Facebook page.

“Send me photos as simple as nasi lemak, roti canai and nasi ayam. Be creative!” the former law intern with Lawyers for Liberty told Malaysiakini.

Red shirts rally fulfilled PAA 2012: IGP
By KHAIRAH N. KARIM news@nst.com..my
– 14 September 2015 @ 1:56 PM

KUALA LUMPUR: Inspector-general of police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar conceded that the red shirts rally is legal after the group received a nod from the City Hall (DBKL) to gather at Padang Merbok on Malaysia Day.

Khalid said even though police does not agree with the planned rally, it had fulfilled all the requirements under the Peaceful Assembly Act (PAA) 2012.

“We will facilitate since the owner of the venue has allowed it to be held there. We will be there to ensure public safety and make sure the rally is to be held in disciplined manner,” he said.

Commenting on the group’s plan to march along the city, including Bukit Bintang, Khalid said there was nothing stated under the act that prohibits marching.

“They can march as it is not prohibited under the act but police will still be monitoring their movement,” he said.

Don’t play cops, IGP tells ‘protect Chinese traders’ groups

The police have warned members of Pro-Rakyat and Otai Reformasi not to interfere in the Sept 16 rally as it could aggravate the situation.

“Don’t do police work,” inspector-general of police Khalid Abu Bakar cautioned the groups today.

He said members of these groups should not attempt to stop participants of the ‘red shirts rally’ or they could face action.

He added while the police commend them for wanting to ensure that nobody is harmed they, however, should not take the law into their own hands.

“So I warn them not to interfere, or they would face action,” Khalid told Malaysiakini.

“Only the police are authorised to take action against those who threaten peace and security,” he added.

The police chief was responding to reports that some 2,500 members of the two groups would camp from dawn to midnight at Bukit Bintang and Petaling Street to protect Chinese traders.

“As Muslims, also Malays and Malaysians, we wish to give our assurance that we will not allow the people of Malaysia, regardless of race, to be harmed,” said Pro-Rakyat president Khairul Anwar Othman.

Ali Rustam says no effigy-burning on Sept 16

National Silat Exponent Association (Pesaka) president Mohd Ali Rustam said he does not know about the burning of effigies at Wednesday’s rally as alleged by two DAP leaders in Kelantan but vouched that the `Himpunan Bersatu Rakyat’ gathering would not see such actions.

Mohd Ali, who was formerly Malacca chief minister, said that if such acts took place at the gathering on Wednesday, those responsible would have to bear responsibility for it.

Danger in Sept 16 rally’s lack of leadership and goals

Danger in Sept 16 rally’s lack of leadership and goals |

YOURSAY Things can well get out of hand with so little clarity on organisation and direction for red shirt rally.

Jamal: Only one Sept 16 rally, we’ll follow silat group

Onyourtoes: What is this – some red shirts, some black shirts; some say it’s to protest against ‘kurang ajar’ Chinese, some say Chinese and Indians are welcome; some say the rally is illegal, some say they don’t care; some say permit not given, some say no permit necessary.

I think there is evil in all this. If trouble happens, no one will accept responsibility.

Voice: Maybe, Pesaka’s president Mohd Ali Rustam should clarify in more detail how, or in what way, the Bersih 4 protesters had insulted the Malay community.

Free and Fair Election: No organiser, no leadership, no purpose. Just gather at Padang Merbuk – ‘macam hantu mabuk’ (like drunken ghosts).

Clever voter: The justification for their proposed action is so ridiculous and puts the Malay community into shame. Thank goodness the support is marginal.

Not Confused: The two groups seem to be like two headless chickens squabbling. I await with interest to see the “million” Malays that they claim will attend the red rally. All very funny, really.

RM2.6BILLION DUIT HARAM: When Bersih 4 planned its peaceful demonstration, it was accused of being disrespectful to Merdeka and not appreciating the sacrifices of our armed forces and police.

Now, the red shirt march is scheduled for Sept 16. Why has no minister questioned their disrespect for Malaysia Day and our Armed Forces?

In fact, some of our Armed Forces personnel laid down their lives in defence of Malaysia during the Confrontation against Indonesia. In this case, there is an utter disrespect for the sacrifices of our Armed Forces if this march goes on.

Nobrain: This red shirt rally can only be construed as anti-Malaysia because it is held on Malaysia Day – an important day for Sarawak and Sabah.

For more:

The yellow Bersih 4 T-shirt is banned but what about the red T-shirt with its ‘bloody’ message?

He also remarked that Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister, Zahid Hamidi had signed an order prohibiting the yellow Bersih 4 T-shirt as an “undesirable publication”.

“But he appears unmoved by the red ‘Kebangkitan Maruah Melayu’ T-shirt with what its message of racial confrontation and incitement of racial hatred and conflict,” commented Lim.

zx

Which version is correct, Ali Rustam’s or Jamal Md Yunos’?

Ali Rustam yesterday finally confirmed his group was the organiser for the red shirt rally to counter the Bersih 4 rally.

While he claimed his rally was different from the ‘Himpunan Maruah Melayu’ first touted by red shirts spokesperson Jamal Md Yunos, the latter responded saying they were essentially referring to the same event.

“One story today, a different story yesterday – what are Malaysians to expect tomorrow?” quipped Lim in response to the confusion.

Only one rally on Sept 16

KUALA LUMPUR: There will only be one rally on Sept 16 – the himpunan rakyat bersatu (people’s unity gathering) organised by the National Silat Federation or Pesaka.

However, those taking part may come in different coloured shirt and not just red or black, the colour to be worn by Pesaka members.

The organiser of the proposed red-shirt rally has now agreed to follow Pesaka’s lead and gather at Padang Merbok here.

The group came to the decision following Pesaka president Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam’s statement that the federation would go ahead with their rally to protect the sanctity of the National Principles (Rukun Negara).

Mohd Ali said they were also compelled to hold the rally to counter Bersih which had continuously insulted national leaders through their rallies.

“We are silat exponents. If they insult our leaders, our Malay leaders, we feel insulted, too,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.

Cops close Low Yat entrances following rally rumour

zzNo entry: Police personnel patrolling in front of the Low Yat Plaza in Kuala Lumpur.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police cordoned off entrances to Low Yat Plaza following rumours of a planned red-shirt gathering at the complex and at Bukit Bintang.

Dang Wangi CID chief Deputy Supt M. Gunalan said it was the district police chief that made the call to close several roads surrounding the complex yesterday.

“This was done to ensure that businesses were not affected by the gathering, if it were to happen.

“However, they (red-shirt participants) did not show up,” he said.

Police roadblocks were spotted around the complex yesterday evening. When contacted, Malay non-governmental organisations coalition chairman Datuk Jamal Yunos said group members were planning to march to the Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) from Pavilion in Kuala Lumpur.

Petaling Street shops to close on Sept 16 over rally fears

About 500 shopkeepers and 773 traders in Petaling Street have decided to close their business on Sept 16, due to the proposed ‘Himpunan Rakyat Bersatu’ for safety reasons.

Kuala Lumpur Hawkers and Petty Traders Association chairman Ang Say Tee said the decision was made after a discussion with several non-government organisations (NGO) on Sept 5.

“Ninety per cent of the traders here have decided to close their business on the day in question to ensure their safety and to prevent any untoward incident,” he told reporters at a Walk About programme jointly organised by NGO, community heads and traders in Petaling Street, today.

He hoped those responsible for organising the gathering would cancel the gathering because many businesses in the area would be affected as they would be forced to close for the whole day.

Ang said the gathering, which was racist in nature, was not suitable with Malaysia Day which should be celebrated with a patriotic spirit in a plural society.

DAP: Umno man’s admission on anti-Bersih rally shocking |

DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang found it simply shocking and outrageous that a former top Umno leader is the “mastermind” behind the Sept 16 anti-Bersih rally.

“Malaysians are now told by former Malacca chief minister and former Umno vice-president Ali Rustam, that his organisation, Persekutuan Silat Kebangsaan (Pesaka), is the real organiser of the Sept 16 rally to counter Bersih 4, and that it had nothing to do with red shirt ‘Kebangkitan Maruah Melayu’ (Raising Malay dignity), said Lim.

The DAP supremo was speaking at a dialogue with leaders of Kulai DAP branches in Kulai this morning.

He pointed out how the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) president Tunku Imran Ja’afar was also shocked at learning his vice president, Megat Zulkarnain Omardin, who is also Pesaka secretary-general, is at the forefront of the Sept 16 rally.
