Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Mohamad Salleh said they investigated the source of the leak believed to be from a SPM exam seminar held at a mosque in Setiawangsa, after getting a report on Nov 21.
However, he said the seminar only discussed questions previously featured in previous year’s SPM exams.
“The previous year’s SPM exams questions involving the Mathematics Paper 2 and other subjects were discussed in the seminar to establish spot question for this year’s examination,” he said in a statement today.

KUALA LUMPUR: A private tutor has accused another of leaking questions to students at a seminar days before the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Additional Mathematics paper was held.

Mohd Husaini Jaslee, 30, said he had lodged a police report on the matter on Thursday after being told about the leak by friends of some of the students who attended the seminar between Oct 25 and Nov 20.

At a press conference supported by the Muslim Consumer Association of Malaysia (PPIM) yesterday, Mohd Husaini said the seminar covered most of the SPM subjects and was held at a multipurpose hall in Setiawangsa by another tutor.

Prior to lodging the police report, Mohd Husaini had also tried to inform the Education Ministry’s Examinations Syndicate about the matter on Tuesday.

However, he claimed that he was told to support his accusations with more evidence. He said he gathered more evidence and returned to the syndicate the next day but was told it had no power to act

G Vinod | November 22, 2013

PETALING JAYA: A DAP MP today urged the Education Ministry to apologise to SPM students for tweaking the Moral Studies examination paper without proper notice.

Exams syndicate: There was no change in Moral paper format

PETALING JAYA: The Education Ministry’s Examinations Syndicate maintained that there was no change to the format for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) Moral Studies paper.

t said the paper consisted of two sections in the same format as in previous years, with Section A comprising eight structured questions worth 80 marks and Section B (answer two out of the three essay questions) for the remaining 20 marks.

“The three essay questions were more open-ended (this year) to allow candidates to give broad-based answers based on their ability to use moral knowledge critically to analyse, evaluate, make decisions and solve moral issues that are relevant to everyday life,” it said in a statement yesterday.

“This approach is to discourage rote learning and simple memorisation of the 36 values in the syllabus, and encourage candidates to produce logical ideas,” it added

“The marking scheme gives more room for candidates to score more marks by showing their maturity and thinking skills in their answers.”

Students in uproar over change in SPM Moral Studies paper

PETALING JAYA: Form Five students sitting for their SPM Moral Studies paper on Wednesday were taken by surprise by drastic changes to the examination format, which they claim was not announced beforehand.

Students who sat for the paper vented their anger at the change.

“The first thing that most of us noticed was, ‘where were the nilai murni‘ (good values)?” said a student from Alor Setar, Kedah.

From their posts, it appeared that the format had been changed from structured questions to a more open-ended form.

Among their grouses were hours spent memorising definitions, which now only contributed two out of 100 marks and essay questions which they had never encountered before.

“When it comes to Moral Studies, the methodology of answering is that we need to be flawless in order to obtain our A+,” he added.
