Adoi, that’s hitting below the belt, Ti tells Nazri

PETALING JAYA: Ti Lian Ker says Nazri Abdul Aziz should not resort to insults if he disagrees with a matter and warns the Umno minister that such brashness will only hurt the Barisan Nasional.

The MCA spokesman also said taking pot shots would not resolve anything.

“You’ll get some support and maybe a lot of clicks on an article, but that’s it. However, at the end of the day, it gets us no where,” the MCA religious harmony bureau chairman told FMT in responding to Nazri’s latest jab at him.
.

Hitting below the belt, Ti said, would only create resentment between the two components in BN.

Infighting, he added, was something the ruling coalition could do without, especially as the 14th general election inches closer.

“Who is MCA to talk about this? Do they think that they are a ‘super party’?

“It is so obvious that MCA has a short man’s inferiority complex,” he told FMT when contacted.

Nazri: Ti is empty up there

PETALING JAYA: Umno’s Nazri Aziz has reignited his war of words with MCA, lashing out at the Barisan Nasional component party for criticising his backing of PAS’s plans for a rally in support of strengthening shariah court powers.

“Who is MCA to talk about this? Do they think that they are a ‘super party’?

“It is so obvious that MCA has a short man’s inferiority complex,” he told FMT when contacted.

Nazri’s scathing remarks come in response to a statement by MCA’s Religious Harmony Bureau chief Ti Lian Ker, who questioned Nazri’s support for the rally earlier today.

Ti, a former Pahang assemblyman, also said Nazri “should be aware that this rally is grounded in religion”.

Nazri, who is also an Umno Supreme Council member, reminded Ti that “nothing could stop PAS from holding a rally as long as the Islamist party complied with the Peaceful Assembly Act”.

“This Ti is empty up there. If he doesn’t know the law, then don’t speak,” the Padang Rengas MP said, adding that if Ti wanted to argue the case, he should ensure he had the facts in hand.

PAS deputy president Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man had earlier said the party would hold a rally on Feb 18 at Dataran Merdeka, with the aim of gathering 300,000 people, in what will be a show of strength over its plan to amend the law and increase the powers of shariah courts.

Nazri responded by saying it was PAS’s right to organise the rally, although the plan to hold it at Dataran Merdeka had been shot down by Kuala Lumpur mayor Mohd Amin Nordin Abd Aziz.

Don’t interfere in others’ spats, warns ‘warrior’ Nazri

PETALING JAYA: There is no need for others to interfere in the argument between two individuals, said Umno Supreme Council member Nazri Aziz.

Commenting on the recent feud between him and MCA Central Committee member Ti Lian Ker, Nazri questioned the need for others in the MCA to jump in to the latter’s defence instead of allowing the two an opportunity to thrash out their issues.

“I’m a man, I fight on my own. But why does the (MCA) youth movement have to interfere? It’s between me and Ti,” he said in an interview with FMT.

“No one from Umno came out with a statement to support me as I am a warrior. I don’t need the moral support from other Umno members as the argument was between me and Ti.”

Nazri also said that Umno was the dominant party in BN. This prompted a reply from MIC President Dr S Subramaniam who said the remarks had hurt the feelings of his party’s grassroots members.

“Subramaniam came and met me. I laughed, he laughed,” said Nazri while explaining what happened afterwards.

“But others don’t interfere. I want to state that although 1,000 people come and attack me, I, on my own, will fight back. I’m a warrior, I’m not afraid,” he added.

Watch Nazri closely, MCA man warns Umno

PETALING JAYA: Umno members should be wary of Nazri Aziz now that he has admitted he is closer to DAP than he is to MCA and respects the Opposition party, Ti Lian Ker warned.

Labelling the Tourism and Culture Minister a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”, Ti, who is MCA Religious Harmony Bureau chairman, accused Nazri of sucking up to the DAP the way former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad has.

“I wonder if Nazri will eventually join the DAP and stand alongside former Umno members?” Ti told FMT, alluding to the likes of Mahathir, former deputy prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin and former Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir.

Mahathir, Muhyiddin and Mukhriz have since gone on to set up Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) which aims to topple Umno and Barisan Nasional.

It’s for the big to discipline small crew, Nazri shoots back

Anne Muhammad

The ongoing public spat between Umno supreme council Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz and his MCA counterpart continues with the former retorting arrogant subordinates need to be put in their place.

Nazri said the “big” needs to discipline “small” crew members on a ship, responding to MCA central committee Ti Lian Ker’s volley yesterday.

“I am arrogant because the crew member is arrogant.

“On a ship, we need to teach discipline. That is why I would like to tell him (Ti), don’t be arrogant because you are small.

“I can be arrogant because I am big, so I can teach him,” the Tourism Minister told Malaysiakini.

Nazri rocked the boat further saying although he is just an “assistant” to the captain, he could still win elections, while the same could not be said for MCA.

“I can be the assistant to the captain because I am terrer (terror, awesome). Even though I am just an assistant to the captain, the rakyat still elect me.

“But I don’t know his (Ti’s) background. Did he contest in the general election? If the rakyat wouldn’t elect him, then don’t talk big.

“I talk big because the crew member (in question) is stupid and arrogant,” he said.

Nazri also slammed Ti for suggesting that he would not have been a minister without the help of component parties that had made BN strong.

He also took issue with Ti’s suggestion that he stand in the next general election outside of BN.

“Why would he ask me to quit BN? I never complained, it is MCA that likes to complain and claim that Umno made them lose.

Nazri: I’m close to Guan Eng as DAP has Chinese support, not MCA

Anne Muhammad

Umno supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he is closer to DAP than MCA because it is the former that can garner Chinese support.

He said this in response to MCA central committee member Ti Lian Ker, who complained that Nazri appears closer to DAP despite winning in the general election under BN, which was helped by all component parties including MCA.

“I am good with (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng because I respect democracy as the Chinese community chose Lim Guan Eng and DAP.

“So I have to respect democracy and respect them (DAP). Why would I want to respect Ti when the people reject him.

“I am confident even if he were to contest in the general election, the rakyat will also reject him because the Chinese people truly hate people like him,” Nazri told Malaysiakini.

Nazri added that he shared a good relationship with MCA’s top leadership, but it was sullied by certain MCA members.

“I know MCA leaders well and have a good working relationship with them.

Better ‘jaguh kampung’ than to be seat-less, Nazri tells MCA

Anne Muhammad

Umno supreme council member Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz said he would rather Umno be a ‘jaguh kampung’ (village hero) than become like MCA, which has only a handful of seats in Parliament.

MCA may not even have won its seven parliamentary seats if not for the ‘jaguh kampung’, said Nazri, and suggested that the Chinese-based party quit BN to prove it could win without Umno.

Umno Youth exco Armand Azha Abu Hanifah mocks MCA for being nearly wiped out while Umno retained if not increased its legislative representation.

Ti responds by blaming UMNO for being village hero and ignoring the needs of its coalition partners.

Umno is ‘man in the mirror’ to BN’s downfall, hits out MCA man

When it comes to BN’s downfall, it is Umno that is the ‘man in the mirror’, as it prioritises its own survival and panders to rural voters in the Malay heartland at the expense of coalition partners.

MCA central committee Ti Lian Ker argued that Umno’s penchant to play the “jaguh kampung” (village hero) have caused it, and by extension the BN, to lose out in urban areas. He said it was of no use if BN remains village heroes, cheering in the boondocks but have to pawn off urban seats in return.

“It is upon this realisation that we need to change, to return BN to the shining standard of the past before Umno leaders started infighting and Umno’s survival was prioritised and not the survival of BN as a whole,” said Ti.

“If BN is merely a ‘jaguh kampung’ and loses in the urban areas, this is enough to show that BN has failed to be in sync with or align the party with changes in the attitudes of the Malay, Chinese, Indian and so on in the cosmopolitan areas.

“This failure is BN’s failure, not that of the component parties chosen to contest under BN’s ticket,” said Ti in a statement today.

He was responding to lambast from Umno Youth exco Armand Azha Abu Hanifah, as reported by AstroAwani.
Armand had hit out at Ti for his earlier comment that if former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad can change tack to suddenly embrace his political nemesis and former deputy Anwar Ibrahim, then Umno too can shift gears and abandon its outdated racial-religous fear-mongering and use of the Chinese as bogeyman to the Malays.
The Umno Youth exco pointed out that in the last general election, it was MCA that was nearly wiped out while Umno retained if not increased its legislative representation.

Ti: Umno should prioritise the survival of Barisan instead of its own

PETALING JAYA: Umno should prioritise the survival of the Barisan Nasional coalition instead of its own, says MCA.

MCA central committee Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker said on Saturday that Barisan was losing out in the urban areas because it is now playing the role of a “jaguh kampung” (village hero).

“There is no use if Barisan remains village heroes, cheering in the villages but pawning off the cities.

“It is upon this realisation that we need to change, to return Barisan to the shining standard of the past before Umno leaders started infighting and Umno’s survival was prioritised and not the survival of Barisan as a whole,” he added,

MCA leader: If Dr M can change, Umno can drop ‘spook minorities’ tactics too

An MCA leader has urged Umno to review and change its political game plan in view of how Dr Mahathir Mohamad has changed his.

“If Mahathir can be Machiavellian enough to re-embrace Anwar Ibrahim in a game changer, why not Umno?” asked central committee member Ti Lian Ker in a media statement.

“Gone were the days where Umno can step or pick on minorities to display their strength and as a clarion call for Malays or Muslims to unite or stay together against the others,” he said.

Ti, who also heads MCA’s religious harmony bureau, said the scare-tactic of “the Chinese are coming; the Malays are under siege; our Islamic faith is being threatened, etc” is no longer effective to unite or force the Malays to stay together.

Instead of caving in to these fear tactics, Ti said the Malays are now gaining confidence and self-esteem that allow them to think out of the old political or feudalistic mindset.

“Many Malays no longer fall for these political games of victimisation and some have openly disagreed with these racial religious games,” he added.

Ti said instead of producing the desired result of uniting the Malays, these issues were proven to be counter-productive and had inadvertently united the Christians, Indians, Chinese into taking an “anti-Umno” stand.

Therefore, he added, “strategies of old” must be halted by Umno.

MCA to Umno: Racial religious games no longer effective

PETALING JAYA: Umno must move away from racial scare tactics in order to prevent alienating Barisan Nasional’s most traditional voters, says MCA.

“It is time for Umno to review and change its political game plan,” said MCA religious harmony bureau chairman Datuk Seri Ti Lian Ker.

In a statement Thursday, he urged Umno to halt its “strategies of old”, saying they are no longer effective in uniting an already fragmented Malay ballot, which is currently divided into several parties, which include PAS, PKR, Amanah and Pribumi.

Ti added that racial scare tactics can end up “alienating all or most of our traditional voters amongst the Chinese, Indians, Christians etc”.
