Chinese support for Dr Mahathir puzzles MCA man

Chinese support for Dr M puzzles MCA man

The Chinese community’s support for Dr Mahathir Mohamad is strange, given his history of authoritarian rule, scandals, cronyism and corruption, MCA Religious Harmony Bureau secretary Chris Daniel Wong said.

“It is puzzling as to why the Chinese community would gleefully cheer Mahathir on in joining his once biggest rival opposition coalition,” Wong said.

He said the Chinese had shown that they rejected Mahathir by giving his successor Abdullah Ahmad Badawi a landslide victory in the 2004 general election.

“It was clear that Mahathirism was despised by all, especially by the Chinese, and Pak Lah’s election was a fresh breath of air against it,” he added.

MCA boss admits Chinese community, gov’t distrust each other

There is mutual distrust between the Chinese community and the government, conceded MCA president Liow Tiong Lai.

In view of this, he called on the government to break the deadlock, and extend an olive branch by implementing policies in line with the wishes of the community.

Speaking to Sin Chew Daily, Liow said Umno was disappointed that the Chinese backed the opposition in the 2008 and 2013 general elections.

On the same note, the MCA president said the Chinese community should support the BN government in order for it to maintain a moderate approach with the support of various races.

“I must emphasise that the strength of the Chinese is precious, they can change the future of the nation,” he added.

Liow, who is also transport minister, pledged that as long as MCA exists, the party would ensure that Umno adopts a moderate and democratic approach.

“I am a Chinese… I understand there are unhappy voices. So, I often voice out in the cabinet that BN should deal with the sentiments of the community instead of handing out funds and goodies during the general election, thinking they can get the support of the Chinese in return,” he added.

MCA won’t accept the reality that it is seen as still betraying the Chinese.

GE 14 is coming and a desperate MCA tries to find its place in a nation filled with political parties, old and new. It has to do something. It has to attack everyone else.

You name it, the MCA is after it: UMNO, Mahathir, Muhyiddin, the DAP, who else?

Desperate times calls for desperate measures: The MCA attacks all and sundry…

MCA can’t accept the reality that it is a subordinate of UMNO, a truth that is spoken so directly by an UMNO stalwart.

Nazri said the “big” needs to discipline “small” crew members on a ship, responding to MCA central committee Ti Lian Ker’s volley yesterday.

“I can be arrogant because I am big, so I can teach him,” the Tourism Minister told Malaysiakini.”

“I am good with (DAP secretary-general) Lim Guan Eng because I respect democracy as the Chinese community chose Lim Guan Eng and DAP.

“So I have to respect democracy and respect them (DAP). Why would I want to respect Ti when the people reject him.

“I am confident even if he were to contest in the general election, the rakyat will also reject him because the Chinese people truly hate people like him,” Nazri told Malaysiakini.

Nazri ‘I-am-a-Warrior’ Aziz puts MCA in its place. Down there…under the table, feeding on scraps.

At least someome in MCA can see how far it has fallen.

After the last general election, MCA was mocked as the ‘7-11′ convenience store due to the party only wining seven parliament and 11 state seats.

If the Chinese continue to vote against it in the next polls, party deputy president Wee Ka Siong said MCA might become “1+3D DaMaCai” with only one parliament and three state seats.
