Facebook is down: Twitter reacts
Facebook had a technical failure and crashed this evening, preventing users from accessing their accounts.
Just after 8pm, an error message was displayed to any of the site’s 1.23billion monthly users who tried to log in.
‘Sorry something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,’ the message read.
This is the second time this week, and the third time this month, that the social networking site has crashed.

Facebook stumbles for second time in a week
SAN FRANCISCO, Sept 29 — Facebook yesterday stumbled for the second time in a week, going out of service for slightly less than an hour.
The leading social network was down for 42 minutes about midday in California, after being out of service for 12 minutes four days earlier, according to website performance tracker currentlydown.com.
“We’re currently restoring Facebook services that people had trouble accessing earlier today due to a configuration issue,” Facebook said in an email response to an AFP inquiry.
“We’re working to bring things back to normal for everyone. We apologise to those who have been inconvenienced.”
Facebook did not disclose how many of the social network’s more than one billion users were affected by the outage.
People took to Twitter during the outage, with #facebookdown jumping into a spot among the top trending hashtags at the one-to-many messaging service.

Facebook goes down with ‘Sorry, something went wrong’ message
Social network used by 1.5 billion people goes offline with blank screen and error message
Facebook has gone offline for many users, with the world’s most popular social network telling users that “something went wrong”
When visiting Facebook.com, instead of seeing the normal homescreen or news feed, users are greeted with a blank screen and a short error message.
“Sorry, something went wrong. We’re working on it and we’ll get it fixed as soon as we can,” the message reads.
Of course, people took to Twitter to vent their frustration.
