20 NGOs hold protest in Malacca against Bersih, Alvin Tan
MALACCA – Some 1,500 members from 20 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) here held a protest against Bersih 4.0 by walking one kilometre from Padang Nyiru to the Melaka Tengah police headquarters on Friday.
Representatives from the NGOs also lodged three police reports against the organisers of Bersih 4, individuals who stomped images of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang, and controversial blogger Alvin Tan who allegedly threatened to rape the daughter of a leader.
Malacca Umno’s Youth wing chief Zali Md Yasin said the peaceful protest was to express dissatisfaction at the Bersih rally and those individuals who were attempting to bring leaders to disrepute and also create disharmony.
He said the protestors should not go overboard by disrespecting leaders and stomping on their images.
“At this ground, all of us are also strongly dissenting against the blogger (Alvin) Tan, who ridiculed Muslims, Malays and even Malaysians as a whole by touching on sensitive religious issues,” he said.
