The School-Based Assessment System (PBS) is controversial, to put it mildly. Some teachers would call it something else.
IS THIS THE NEW SYSTEM?
*THE PBS REMAINS
1 Teachers are no longer required to prepare the Students’ Progress File and Transit Record. Instead, teachers keep data in their own system to be made available to parents if asked for.
2 The data can be keyed in to the central system later, at their own time, given the situation and suitability.
*THE PMR IS GONE FOR GOOD
1 It will be replaced by the Form 3 Assessment (PT3) system starting this year.
2 Under PT3, schools will be given the flexibility to administer, assess and award scores according to the standardised scoring guidelines set by the Examinations Board.

Teacher who led PBS protest defies transfer order
PETALING JAYA: The teacher who led the protest against the school-based assessment (PBS) system has refused to report to his new school despite his transfer order.
Suara Guru-Masyarakat Malaysia working committee head Mohd Nor Izzat Mohd Johari said he was still teaching at a school some 25km from his home in Jerantut, Pahang.
“If I report to the new school, this would mean I would be submitting to the questionable transfer order,” he said yesterday.
Mohd Nor Izzat, who led the protest by a group of teachers in Bangi on Feb 22, received a transfer letter dated Feb 17 from the Pahang education department, transferring him to a school over 80km from his home.
The art teacher said he was still waiting for a decision on his appeal against the transfer, claiming both his current school and the one that he was supposed to report to had no problems with his actions.

Revamped PBS to be teacher-friendly, teaching-oriented, says minister – Bernama
The School-Based Assessment (PBS), which is being revamped, will be teacher-friendly and teaching-oriented, said Second Education Minister Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh.
Formulated by academics, he said the PBS, which was being fine-tuned for implementation by April 1, would not burden teachers.
The people should evaluate the PBS once it is implemented and should not listen to opposition lies and slanders about it, he told reporters after opening the education development seminar for the Dabong state constituency in Kuala Krai today.
