Azmin questions Wan Azizah

Selection lacks consultation and consensus, says PKR deputy

From page 1 PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has launched a thinly veiled attack against president Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail for failing to consult Selangor party leaders over who should be the mentri besar.

Press broadside: Azmin flanked by his supporters while speaking to reporters in Petaling Jaya. The Selangor PKR chief had fired the first salvo a day earlier by saying that the next mentri besar should not be a “lame duck” who allowed himself to be led by others.

The reference was seen as a dig at Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim.

‘Anwar told me to prepare to take over from Khalid in 2008’

I refused the offer as it could cause instability. — AZMIN ALI

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali claimed that he was offered the Selangor mentri besar’s post in 2008 during the Permatang Pauh by-election.

“Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim asked me to prepare to take over from Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim as the party was unhappy with his performance in helming Selangor.

“There were complaints by civil servants and the business community on bureaucracy and that the administration was not reformist in nature.

“I refused the offer as it could cause instability to the party.

Azmin denies quitting PKR, slams Umno

Anisah Shukry | May 10, 2013
UPDATED

PETALING JAYA: PKR deputy president Azmin Ali has denied that he will quit from the party and blamed Umno for spreading such rumours.

Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters here this morning, he vowed to continue fighting with PKR under the leadership of Anwar Ibrahim.

“I will not forsake this struggle,” he stressed. “To this people…[who spread such rumours]… carry on dreaming.”

It had been widely speculated that Azmin would quit the party with his supporters, with some claiming that it is related to the Selangor menteri besar post.

However, Azmin said he was not interested in the MB post, stressing that he had already been offered the post during the 2008 Permatang Pauh by-election by Anwar but refused it.

“I have no intention whatsoever of resigning from my duly elected position as deputy president of PKR.

“I will certainly not betray the trust that has been given to me by the people who have just elected me as Gombak member of parliament and state assemblyman,” he told reporters at the packed press conference.

He also refused to voice his support or otherwise for Khalid Ibrahim as Selangor menteri besar, stressing that he would stick by the party’s decision.

Azmin stays in PKR, demands consensus on MB post
Refuting all speculation, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali said he will remain in the party and will not betray the trust of those who elected him MP for Gombak and Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyperson under the party banner.NONE“Carry on dreaming because I have no intention of resigning the duly elected position as deputy president.”Consequently and more significantly, I will not betray the trust of the people who five years ago elected me their MP and state assemblyperson,” Azmin (in coat in photo) said.He said, the speculation that he is after the MB post is also false, but that there is concern among the Selangor PKR leadership that the decision for the MB post had been decided without party consensus.

Azmin to stay in PKR, but slams party for ‘nepostism’ in decision-making over S’gor MB post

Written by  Malaysia Chronicle

PKR deputy president Azmin Ali will remain in the party he helped to found in the late 1990s, accusing the Umno-controlled press of blowing up an internal party issue to tarnish his political integrity.

“In the past 48 hours, there have been a lot of attention and rumors about my future in PKR. They speculated I would resign from the party as well as my posts as MP of Gombak and assemblyman of Bukit Antarabangsa. I believe these rumors came from Umno-linked quarters,” Azmin told a packed press conference.

“I am not an irresponsible politician or leader. Many accused me of being greedy and wanting to capture the position of Selangor chief minister. This is a insult to my political integrity. Ambition is not a crime in politics, there is nothing wrong in that.”

However, Azmin minced no words lambasting his party for what he claimed was a lack of transparency in the way the post of Mentri Besar was fixed.

Azmin’s PC on Friday
Azmin is scheduled to hold a press conference on Friday morning, apperently to tell that he is quitting all party posts, as well as to stand down as the Gombak MP and the Bukit Antarabangsa state rep. He is however expected to remain as an ordinary PKR member.

Party sources said that his decision was made on Thursday following a meeting with the 17 PKR divisions who support him.

Azmin Ali set to ditch Pakatan Rakyat?

Anwar Ibrahim’s right-hand man Mohamed Azmin Ali is purportedly set to ditch PKR and the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

According to party sources, the 48-year-old politician wants to leave the coalition “due to his dissatisfaction over the allocation of Selangor state executive committee seats among Pakatan members.”

It is believed that 11 senior Pakatan figures – said to be newly-elected members of parliament – are set to follow Azmin out the door.

Azmin’s absence from the mammoth Pakatan rally fronted by leader Anwar Ibrahim in Kelana Jaya, Selangor on Wednesday night has not gone unnoticed, thanks in no small part to Azmin’s scathing tweets about the event.

On Twitter, he slammed Pakatan for organising the rally, urging the coalition to accept their loss at the recently concluded 13th general election.

Azmin tweeted, “Rakyat letih dengan asakan politik melampau. Terima hukuman, muhasabah diri, akui kelemahan, maju ke hadapan, tumpu rakyat bukan kerabat.”

(The people are tired over the excessive political pressure. Accept the punishment, judge yourselves, admit weakness, progress and focus on the people, not kinship).

Azmin is reportedly one of those battling to become the new Selangor menteri besar.

Will Azmin’s move scuttle Anwar’s plan?

FMT Staff | May 10, 2013

The question will remain if Azmin’s decision – whatever it may be – is also a sideshow to keep BN distracted while Anwar gets defecting MPs to form the government.

PETALING JAYA: PKR supremo Anwar Ibrahim has his hands full right now. In one hand he is fighting against Najib Tun Razak, Barisan Nasional and the Election Commission for ‘stealing’ the elections through fraudulent means.

On the other, he is said to be trying to pacify his most trusted aide Azmin Ali from not ditching the fight by walking out of PKR – all apparently because he (Azmin) is being overlooked again for the Selangor Menteri Besar’s post.

And most interestingly, on the third front, he is fighting against time to ensure he has enough BN members of parliament who are willing to jump ship so that Pakatan will have the numbers to form the government.

According to blogger Raja Petra Kamarudin, Anwar is looking at “stealing a government” by having enough defectors to form a two thirds in the parliament!

First the Azmin saga.

For days now Azmin is said to be sulking over the reluctance shown by Anwar in naming him as the Selangor Menteri Besar, to replace Khalid Ibrahim.

Azmin is said to have the support of at least 17 out of the 22 divisions in Selangor, as well as the support of a number of party’s state representatives and PKR parliamentarians. But, the party leadership is believed to be in favour of Khalid for the top post. Likewise, both DAP and PAS have also indicated that they wanted Khalid to continue as the MB.

With this tiff going on, Azmin did himself no favour yesterday with a series to tweets which questioned the need for public rallies to protest against the election results. At one look, it appears as though the target of his ire is Anwar, who is the architect behind the rallies to protest against the “illegitimate BN government”. Azmin was the sole senior PKR leader who was absent at the rally in Kelana Jaya on Wednesday.

Anwar in fact is planning a nationwide series of public rallies to get the rakyat to support his call for the election results to be declared in his favour.

However by the time he starts his next rally, he may have lost his most trusted lieutenant – Azmin.
……….

Just a sideshow

This is not a distraction which Anwar and PKR need right now, especially when he is zeroing in to save the elections.

Raja Petra however claims that the rallies are just a sideshow to keep BN distracted as Anwar secretly negotiates with the BN members of parliament from Sabah and Sarawak.

“Pakatan needs at least 23 more parliamentary seats to form the federal government. 25 would be better. Then Pakatan Rakyat would have six more seats than Barisan Nasional.

“Anwar’s ‘war room’ masterminds are Dr Rahim Ghouse, Saifuddin Nasution, Johari Abdul and Azmin Ali. These are the people hatching all the plots and planning the strategies,” he wrote in his latest entry in his Malaysia-Today portal.

Raja Petra said that the horse-trading is now going on with Anwar making his offers “and Najib will have to counter-offer something better”.

“So we may yet see Anwar become the new prime minister if Najib cannot better Anwar’s offer and the members of parliament from Sabah and Sarawak crossover,” he wrote.

He added that for the plan to succeed, Anwar has to try to pacify Azmin to make sure he does not jump if he is not made the Menteri Besar of Selangor.

“If not then Anwar might as well abandon the negotiations because the crossovers from Sabah and Sarawak will be neutralised by Azmin and gang once they declare themselves ‘independents’,” said Raja Petra.
