Rosmah Mansor testified that if she had wanted bribes, she would have just asked her husband Najib Abdul Razak to do so rather than rely on others.

The wife of the former prime minister told the Kuala Lumpur High Court today this when refuting testimony from her alleged former aide, Rizal Mansor, that she ordered him to solicit millions of ringgit in kickbacks.

During today’s corruption trial linked to the RM1.25 billion solar hybrid energy project for 369 rural schools in Sarawak, accused Rosmah rubbished Rizal’s oral evidence that she asked him to obtain RM5 million and RM1.5 million in bribes.

Rizal previously testified that he collected the bribes for her, to ensure the contract for the project was awarded to company Jepak Holdings Sdn Bhd.

“I never asked Rizal to negotiate on my behalf for the RM1.5 million and RM5 million. (Hypothetically) )I would have never asked him as he was just staff.

“If I wanted to, why go to Rizal? I sleep with my husband (Najib), I could have told him (Najib) to do it,” Rosmah replied during re-examination by defence counsel Akberdin Abdul Kader.

The accused further claimed that Rizal was in a conspiracy with the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC) to implicate her in the court case.

Rosmah in previous proceedings had contended that Rizal was the real mastermind behind the entire case, and cut a deal with prosecutors for his related graft charges to be dropped in return for his testimony against her.
