Plaza Low Yat attack not racial, say cops
There was no racial motivation in the attack on a promoter at Plaza Low Yat yesterday, Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah stressed today.
Zainol also confirmed the claim of the Plaza Low Yat management that the attacker suffered from mental illness.
“The situation at Plaza Low Yat is under control and it has nothing to do with race,” Zainol said.
…
He said a colleague of the victim had a misunderstanding with the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle in Taman Maluri, Cheras.
The suspect had demanded that the driver of a yellow Honda Civic to stop his vehicle for nearly hitting him, but the driver refused as he was worried for his safety.
The suspect proceeded to follow the driver to Plaza Low Yat where he worked.
“The suspect clashed with the Honda Civic driver at the Plaza Low Yat car park and slammed his helmet at him and also on the bonnet of the car, causing a dent,” Zainol said.
He added that the suspect then continued to follow the driver into Plaza Low Yat, where he met the driver’s colleague who was wearing a similar uniform at one of the stores.
The suspect then demanded to know where the driver was, prompting the victim to check the store’s work schedule, only to be punched by the suspect.

Man causes stir in Low Yat Plaza
Last updated on 13 November 2015 – 01:22am
KUALA LUMPUR: A 27-year-old man believed to be in a state of intoxication caused a stir when he attacked a staff of a mobile phone store and a customer at IT and electronics mall Low Yat Plaza in Bukit Bintang here yesterday.
The man had stepped in the mall at about 7.20pm and confronted a staff of the Oppo mobile phone sales booth demanding to see a another worker who was not at work yesterday.
Witnesses told police that the suspect demanded to know the whereabouts of the staff and left soon after being given the telephone number of the man he sought.
Dang Wangi police chief ACP Zainol Samah said as the man was leaving he shouted out and called the staff again and demanded to know when his colleague was working.
He said as the staff checked his phone to see when his colleague was working, the suspect landed several punches on him.
He said the staff walked away towards his workplace and was trailed by the suspect.
Zainol said the suspect then showed the staff a tattoo on his wrist and asked him, “Do you know who I am” before berating him.
He said elderly man who was recording the incident on video with his mobile computer was then attacked by the suspect who grabbed the device and threw it at the man. Another passer-by quickly intervened and confronted the suspect who then fled the scene.
Minutes later, a police team arrived the scene on being alerted by security guards and subdued the man before taking him away.
Zainol said the suspect was arrested and checks showed that he had past criminal records for theft and drug related offences.

Cops arrest attacker at Plaza Low Yat

Low Yat Plaza was the scene of yet another scuffle today after a 27-year-old man assaulted a salesperson there and hurled a projectile at one customer.
Dang Wangi district police chief Zainol Samah this evening confirmed receiving a police report from the salesperson over the 7.20pm incident.
Zainol said the attacker has since been detained by security guards with the presence of police.
“He had two previous records of cases relating to drugs and theft,” he said in a statement today.
…
According to the police report, the salesperson, a 23-year-old who worked at one of the stores in Plaza Low Yat, said the man had interrogated him about the whereabouts of a colleague.
After the salesperson provided details such as the contact number and general location of where his colleague lived, the man then demanded to know what time the colleague starts work the next day.
However, while the salesperson was checking the schedule on when his colleague was coming in the next day, the man punched him on the lips four times.
Attacker left when customers stepped in
“The complainant (salesperson) then returned to his stall and told his colleagues that he was hit.
“The man followed him and scolded the complainant while showing his tatoo on his right arm and said: ‘Do you know who I am?’,” said the report.
Zainol added the attacker also snatched a tablet from a customer who recorded the incident and hurled the device back at its owner.
However, the attacker left after other customers intervened.
