‘Mat Rempit’ killed in Ipoh crash, motorist assaulted
Police say the teenager was part of a group of motorcyclists taking part in illegal racing at 4am.
IPOH: A motorist was set upon by a group of Mat Rempit and assaulted after a motorcyclist was killed in an accident here today.
Perak Traffic Police Investigation and Enforcement Department deputy chief DSP Mohd Mahiri Hussin said the motorist, Thean Weng Sin, 21, later sought treatment for head and body injuries at the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.
Mahiri identified the dead motorcyclist as Muhammad Zulhilmi, 19, from Sungai Siput. He died instantly after collision with the car driven by Thean.
He said the motorcyclist was believed to be part of a group of Mat Rempit taking part in an illegal motorcycle race on Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah here about 4am.

Reckless driving costs man RM1,700
IPOH: A 28-year-old self-employed man was fined RM1,700, or two months’ jail in default, after he pleaded guilty to reckless driving at Persiaran Meru 3, here last year.
Mohamed Hazman Mohamed Hashim committed the offence at 2.15am on Nov 8.
Magistrate Haslinda A. Raof meted out the sentence after Hazman pleaded guilty to the charge which was read to him by the court interpreter.
Hazman was charged under Section 279 of the Penal Code which carries a maximum jail term of six months or fined up to RM2,000 or both.
According to the case facts, Hazman had driven a red Proton Wira in a reckless manner which could pose danger or cause injuries to others.

Circuit forced to close due to illegal racing

IPOH: A newly opened “racing circuit” near Terminal Aman Jaya here was forced to close down following a police operation to clamp down illegal racing.
In the operation at Persiaran Meru 3 which began at 2am yesterday, police also arrested five men aged between 23 and 27 years involved in the race and hundreds of spectators were also screened.
“We also sealed the vehicles of the five which had been illegally modified,” said state deputy traffic chief Deputy Superintendent Mahiri Hussin.
Mahiri said acting on tip-off, police had staked out at the area.
“Our investigations revealed that the illegal racing had been going on for the past two weeks,” he said. During the operation, police checked a total of 154 vehicles.
Mahiri said the illegal races only took place on weekends.
“The circuit is fast gaining popularity with participants coming from as far as Penang to take part,” he added.

Ipoh: Lebih 100 kereta ditahan dan diperiksa polis trafik daripada Ibu Pejabat Polis Kontinjen (IPK) Perak dengan kerjasama Jabatan Pengangkutan Jalan (JPJ) kerana terbabit dalam kegiatan lumba haram di Persiaran Meru Raya 3, di sini awal pagi tadi.
Dalam serbuan 2 pagi itu, beberapa pemilik kereta didapati beradu kelajuan kenderaan masing-masing manakala ratusan lain adalah penonton yang menyaksikan perlumbaan haram di laluan sepanjang kira-kira 1.5 kilometer itu.
Kesemua pemilik dan kenderaan yang ditahan itu kemudian diperiksa membabitkan kesalahan mengubahsuai kenderaan serta saman trafik yang tertunggak selain kesalahan lalu-lintas yang lain.
Sehingga 5.30 pagi tadi pemeriksaan masih dilakukan dan kebanyakan yang ditahan adalah golongan muda dari sekitar bandar raya ini serta beberapa daerah lain.

Three killed in illegal motorcycle race near Simpang Pulai
Three youths, including two college students, were killed in an illegal motorcycle race at KM283.6 of the southbound North-South Expressway, near Simpang Pulai, Perak, early today.
Those killed in the 3.20am incident have been identified as Mohd Azwandi Riffen, 26, from Sungai Siput, and college students Muhamad Nursyafiq Sham, 19, from Malim Nawar, and Syed Muhammad Aiman Syed Hassandi, 18, from Sungai Siput.
Perak police Public Order and Traffic Department chief Wan Jamil Wan Chik said it was understood that the three were with about 100 other motorcyclists racing on the highway from the Ipoh South toll plaza (Ampang) towards Simpang Pulai.
“They are said to have collided with each other, tumbled over onto the road and died instantly due to severe head and body injuries,” he said when contacted today.
All the other motorcyclists were said to have fled the scene when police arrived.
