MB: No crocs at PD beaches
Wednesday, 04 Aug 2010
SEREMBAN: The beaches of Port Dickson are safe despite reported sightings of crocodiles along the coastline recently, Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said.
“Holiday-makers and beach-goers need not worry as there have been no incidences of crocodile attacks. In the past, there had been incidences where crocodiles at Sungai Timun and Sungai Linggi displayed aggressive behaviour but this was because they had been shot at and trapped by poachers,” he told reporters here yesterday.
“My advice to the people is, stop attacking these creatures or they may retaliate,” Mohamad said, adding that the crocodiles do not normally stray from their river habitat to the beaches at the popular seaside town.
A six-metre long crocodile was found dead at the Ixora Permai beach near Tanjung Agas in Port Dickson on Tuesday.
The reptile was believed to have been dead for four days at the time villagers found it at the Kuala Linggi riverbank at about 12.45pm.
Mohamad said the crocodile, known locally as buaya tembaga because of its copper-coloured body, had probably been injured before it made its way to the sea from its natural habitat in Sungai Linggi, some three kilometres away.

Doctored pictures of a large crocodile allegedly spotted off Port Dickson beach have gone viral on social media.
The pictures have been circulated along with a message, warning beachgoers not to swim there, following the alleged sighting of the 3 metre reptile.
However, Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department denied the claim that tourists had seen the reptile swimming, at Batu Lima, off the beach.
Its Director Norazam Khamis said, his men had checked the scene after receiving calls from the public, and found no signs of any crocodile.
Checks later revealed that the pictures and information being disseminated on WhatsApp was false, and have been taken from a news report, on a sighting in Australia last year.
The public has been urged to refrain from making the images go viral as the police will take action on anyone who spread false information to cause panic.

By TEOH PEI YING – 8 November 2015 @ 4:22 PM
PORT DICKSON: Doctored pictures of a large crocodile allegedly spotted off the Port Dickson beach have gone viral on social media.
Negri Sembilan Fire and Rescue Department denied that tourists had seen the reptile swimming at Batu 5 off the Port Dickson beach. Its director Norazam Khamis said his men had checked the scene after receiving calls from the public.
“The pictures and information being disseminated on Whatsapp is false. “They are old pictures believed to be taken in Australia,” he said, adding the department was also checking with the Wild Life and National Parks Department on the matter.
