Cops quiz wife and son, Azmin flays ‘desperate’ Umno

The police are recording statements from Selangor Menteri Besar Mohd Azmin Ali’s 15-year-old son and wife, Shamsidar Taharin.
Upon arriving at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this afternoon, the livid PKR deputy president opened fire on Umno.
He said Umno and BN should face him instead of harassing his family over the Bersih 4 rally, which called for Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak’s resignation.
“I am asking Umno not to harass my family and my son. They should face me, not my son.
“I am challenging Umno to confront me,” stressed the menteri besar, who was accompanied by some 50 supporters.
Azmin also described the police’s action to summon his son as a “desperate” move by the powers-that-be.
“More than 500,000 were gathered at Dataran Merdeka (for Bersih 4), why only target my wife and son? This is an indication that Umno is desperate.
“We will continue to fight this cruelty,” he said.

Inconsistent statements show how ‘professional’ police are, says Azmin

PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali today slammed the KL police chief for coming out with inconsistent statements on the effort to summon his son for questioning, saying that such a move is counterproductive to the force’s image.
He said that the statements made by the KL police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa, on calling up his 15-year-old son, Mohamed Basheer, only showed the level of professionalism in the police force.
“The police keep on changing their statements. These are statements coming from the chief of police, not your usual local or ‘kampung’ policemen,” he told reporters in Shah Alam today.
However, Azmin, who is also the Selangor Menteri Besar, assured that his son would get his statement recorded at the Dang Wangi police headquarters on November 25.

The mass demonstration in the city centre, however, only occurred after on August 29 and 30.

Lawyer refutes claim cops called Azmin’s son over Bersih 4 in July
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 ― The police only contacted the teenage son of Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali in September over the Bersih 4 rally, his lawyer said today in correcting the police’s claims that the boy was called up back in July before the demonstration.
Latheefa Koya also said the police were fine back then when they were asked to wait till after the Selangor mentri besar’s 15-year-old son’s exam that will end this week.
“They agreed to that. It wasn’t an issue,” Latheefa told Malay Mail Online.
“I don’t know why they’re talking about notice being issued in July. It’s certainly not July. Doesn’t make sense at all,” the lawyer added.

SOMEONE’S MEMORY IS POOR, ARITHMETIC ALSO POOR.
Baheer Azmin attended Bersih 4 on 30 August 2014.
1. Police contacted him in JULY! How could that happened? BEFORE the event! Poor memory?
2. It was said that Basheer had 3 months to turn up at the police station but did not. Try as I did, I couldn’t get 3 months from 30 August. I managed to get 2 months and 10 days. Whose arithmetic is poor?
WILL HE SAY THAT HE WAS MISQUOTED?

KL police chief clears air over notice sent to Azmin’s son
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Tajuddin Md Isa has cleared the air over the notice sent to PKR deputy president Mohamed Azmin Ali’s son, ordering him to go to the Dang Wangi police headquarters at 10am today.
Tajuddin said police had initially contacted the Selangor menteri besar’s 15-year-old son in July via telephone requesting him to come forward to give his statement in regard to investigations into the Bersih rally.
“We did it that way as we didn’t want to create any fuss. But after three months, he had still not come forward, forcing police to issue the notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
“Police had actually given him ample time. In fact, he could have come forward before the notice was issued,” he said when asked to comment on a Twitter posting by Azmin.

Don’t take it out on the kids, legal group tells cops after Bersih probe on PKR No 2’s teen son.
Don’t take it out on the kids, @lawyers4liberty tells cops after #Bersih4 probe on @AzminAli‘s teen son http://bit.ly/1Sb6LbB
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — Lawyers for Liberty (LFL) slammed the police today for investigating the children of Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali and activists for participating in the Bersih 4 rally.
Its executive director Eric Paulsen said investigations against the 15 year-old-boy and 14 year-old-girl respectively under the Peaceful Assembly Act is “clearly selective and in bad faith” as the Bersih 4 rally ended peacefully with hundreds of thousands Malaysians in attendance including many other children.
“What possible reason could the police provide for both these children to be singled out other than the fact of their parents’ background and political leaning?
“Investigating these children for merely exercising their right to peaceful assembly is clearly misconceived and unfortunately lends further credence that the police force remains highly politicised and selective when it comes to political offences,” he said in a statement.
He urged the police to be “professional, impartial and competent” in maintaining law and order, preventing and detecting “real crimes” rather than be concerned with political offences involving the government’s political adversaries or their children.

Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali today said his son has no fear over having to give a statement to police over the Bersih 4 rally.
“He’s not afraid. My son was ready to give his statement to police today, but I told him to focus on his exam.
“Well, look at who his father is,” Azmin said, smiling.
His son, Mohamed Basheer Noor Alhaq, 15, received a notice under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code to give his statement over the rally.

LFL director Eric Paulsen said many children attended the rally, which ended peacefully.
“What possible reason could the police provide for both these children to be singled out other than the fact of their parents’ background and political leaning?” he asked in a statement.
He said Malaysia is bound by the Child Act 2001 and is a signatory of the Convention of Rights of the Child which prioritise the child’s welfare.
“Investigating these children for merely exercising their right to peaceful assembly is clearly misconceived and unfortunately lends further credence that the police force remains highly politicised and selective when it comes to political offences,” he said.

Azmin’s son will be questioned by police after exams, lawyer confirms
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali’s teenage son will only be meeting the police over the Bersih 4 rally after he finishes his final exams, his lawyer Latheefa Koya has confirmed.
Latheefa said the recording of Azmin’s son’s statement will not be happening tomorrow as ordered initially, as the police have been informed that the 15-year-old’s final exams begin tomorrow.
“I called the police and told him that the son is sitting for exam. We will fix another date after his exam,” she told Malay Mail Online when contacted today, confirming that the police had agreed to postpone the questioning.
Latheefa said she had previously informed the police that Azmin’s son will be sitting for his exams, back in September when Azmin himself was questioned over the same demonstration last August organised by polls reform group Bersih 2.0.
She said the notice issued under Section 111 of the Criminal Procedure Code – which summons an individual for the recording of statement – was served at the Selangor Mentri Besar’s official residence, and not to the boy himself.

Police have summoned Selangor Menteri Besar Azmin Ali’s teenage son to give a statement over his attendance at the Bersih 4 rally in August.
The MB, who is also PKR deputy president, attended the Kuala Lumpur rally with his family.
“Police instructed my son to present himself to the Dang Wangi district headquarters at 10am tomorrow, even though he has to sit his final examinations.
“This oppression of a 15-year-old boy will only prompt him to rise against Umno’s misdeeds.
“I am grateful that my son Basheer is a brave boy,” he said on Twitter.
