‘Time to chop down the old tree named BN’

K Pragalath | May 11, 2013

PAS spiritual advisor Nik Aziz Nik Mat lashes out at Umno and BN over proposals for DAP to join ruling federal coalition.

PETALING JAYA: Inviting DAP into Barisan Nasional proves that BN is being rejected by the people, said PAS spiritual advisor Nik Aziz Nik Mat.

“I think this shows that they have realised that they are being sidelined by the people.

“Their racial politics and discrimination have been rejected by the people, forcing them to look for a new branch to hang on.

“It is not a new branch that they should look for. The old tree by the name of BN must be chopped down!” said Nik Aziz in a statement via his Facebook page.

On Wednesday, former information  Minister Zainuddin Maidin suggested that the DAP should join BN to ensure Chinese representation in the Cabinet after MCA only retained seven out of the 37 parliamentary seats that the party contested.
……….

The idea was however shot down by the DAP yesterday.
……….

Nik Aziz also questioned Zainuddin and Umno’s motive in inviting the DAP into the BN coalition.

“Wasn’t the DAP accused as a chauvinist, communist and a “kafir harbi” all this while? Wasn’t the DAP accused of attempting to turn Malaysia into a Christian state and mortgaging “Allah” word?”

Nik Aziz instead invited Umno to join Pakatan Rakyat because Umno’s “ideological struggle is outdated”.

“In Peninsular Malaysia where people have access to technology and information, Umno is rejected and Pakatan won. It is time for BN and Umno to do some self-retrospective exercise or they would be totally rejected in this nation’s political arena,” said the influential PAS leader.

The front page Sin Chew Daily headline in red says: “Lim Kit Siang: Can have coalition government with BN”, with the smaller sub-head in black saying, “Condition: Accept Pakatan’s election manifesto.”

‘Misleading headline’ gets Kit Siang bashing on the Net

DAP national adviser Lim Kit Siang said today he was shocked to find himself the subject of scorn on the Internet, with people coming under the impression that he had agreed to DAP joining BN.

DAP joining BN is totally out of the question, Lim said, and attributed the misunderstanding to a “misleading headline” by the country’s largest Chinese language newspaper, Sin Chew Daily.

“I was scolded for nothing… People became confused because they read the main headline in red but they did not read the black sub-heading.

“This is the lesson for all of us and we should not give rise to such confusion. A lesson for Sin Chew, that in such a condition it should all be in the primary headline,” he told a press conference at the DAP headquarters this afternoon.

The front page Sin Chew Daily headline in red says: “Lim Kit Siang: Can have coalition government with BN”, with the smaller sub-head in black saying, “Condition: Accept Pakatan’s election manifesto.”
……….

Lim told reporters: “I am not blaming anyone, I am just stating the series of events that gave rise to some misunderstanding and the immediate anger and shock in Facebook, blaming me for betraying the principles of the party and the people…

NONE“… it came from the headline, which is an obnoxious idea that DAP wants to replace MCA – that has never been our intention.,”Lim also described Sin Chew’s publication of his remarks side-by-side on Facebook about DAP’s refusal to join BN and the possibly of Pakatan Rakyat’s forming a coalition government with BN to show that he had supposedly contradicted himself as “mischievous”.

Guan Eng: DAP has no interest in BN

Athi Shankar | May 10, 2013

Lim Guan Eng accuses Umno of trying to break up the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

GEORGE TOWN: DAP has no interest in joining Barisan Nasional for posts, said Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng in a statement here today.

This is because, he said DAP struggled for principles and people-centric policies not positions and personal interests.

He claimed that BN was using underhand tactics to split up Pakatan Rakyat by inviting DAP to join the coalition.

He stressed DAP’s urgent priority of polls reform that respected the “one-man, one-vote, one-value” principle would not be undermined by such underhand tactics.

He claimed that Pakatan’s failure to wrest the federal government from BN despite garnering more popular votes demands urgent polls reforms.
