Rafizi emerges favourite in Pandan constituency
AS the fate of the nation’s leadership is decided tomorrow, all eyes are on candidates and their campaigns.
Campaigning in the Pandan parliamentary constituency has been clouded with claims and counter claims by the candidates.
But above the political manoeuvering, a clear favourite has emerged in the form of Parti Keadilan Rakyat’s (PKR) Rafizi Ramli, who has been drawing the most attention from Pandan residents since the start of campaigning.
Barring anything unforeseen, the first-time candidate — famous for exposing the National Feedlock Corporation fiasco — appears to have an edge in the three cornered fight for the parliamentary constituency.
This is evident from the sheer numbers turning up for his rallies and during the recent visit of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the area.

Rafizi shines more light on Pandan rival’s alleged misconduct
By Syed Jaymal Zahiid
April 24, 2013
PETALING JAYA, April 24 ― PKR Pandan hopeful Rafizi Ramli furnished further documentary evidence of a probe against rival Gary Lim for alleged fraud and misconduct, after the latter denied any such investigation yesterday.
The PKR strategy directory provided copies of show cause letters issued recently by Lim’s former employers, Shear Delamore & Co, as well as the Bar Council, which demanded his explanation for alleged misrepresentation.
“I believe the evidence here is clear enough that he is under police and Bar Council investigation on allegations of misconduct, despite him denying it until today,” Rafizi (picture), known as PKR’s “exposé man”, told a press conference here.
In addition to the two letters dated December 27, 2012 and February 19, 2013 respectively, the law firm had also lodged a police report against the MCA candidate.
According to the documents, Lim has yet to respond to previous show cause letters.
………..
Lim raised doubt over the authenticity of the documents released by Rafizi and how it had been leaked, repeating again that the no one had called him to explain himself before any inquiry.

Tan, 35, is the former private secretary to Pandan incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, who was dumped by Chua Soi Lek.
Rafizi, well known for his exposes on allegedly corrupt BN politicians, is facing a three-cornered fight for Pandan with Lim and Tan.
Ong won the seat in Election 2008 with a 2,961-vote majority in a straight fight with PKR’s Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud, earning a spot in Parliament as one of the 15 MCA candidates who survived the political tsunami.

Rafizi rides on Tee Keat’s name in campaign for Pandan
Rafizi said Pakatan Rakyat would invite Ong to help the new government should the coalition win Putrajaya.KUALA LUMPUR, April 22 — PKR’s Rafizi Ramli thanked Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat last night for staying out of the May 5 polls, even offering the Pandan incumbent a ticket to help Pakatan Rakyat (PR) in the federal government should it win Putrajaya.
The PKR strategy director, clearly riding on Ong’s still-lingering popularity to woo Chinese support, told a ceramah at the Taman Bukit Teratai foodcourt that Ong is a good man who deserved a respected position in Barisan Nasional (BN) and the MCA.
“Soi Lek… if he really wanted to choose the cleanest, best candidate for BN, he should have chosen Ong Tee Keat to represent the MCA,” Rafizi said, referring to Ong’s party president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek.
“I have no problem if I had gone up against Ong Tee Keat. If I fought against Ong Tee Keat, it would have been better because Pandan voters would have the best choices — if I win, it is okay, if Ong Tee Keat wins, it is also okay.
“He is a good man,” the well-known PKR politician said.
But Rafizi, sarcastically labelling Dr Chua “Malaysia’s number one VCD taukeh”, said the party president had not chosen to field Ong in Pandan as he does not like such good people.
“Instead, he put his best friend named Gary Lim,” he said.

Heat turns up in Pandan
PANDAN (April 20, 2013): Surprises were aplenty in Pandan today as independents joined party candidates for nomination, turning the heat up even more with multi-corner fights looking to take place on May 5.
The Pandan parliamentary seat, which was slated to be a fight between PKR’s Rafizi Ramli and MCA’s Gary Lim, became a three-corner battle with the surprise announcement by Independent candidate Allan Tan (elephant symbol).
“I want to carry on Pandan incumbent Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat’s effort of serving the community; somebody must do this. We will continue helping the Pandan residents, and I am doing it with Ong’s blessing,” he said outside the nomination centre today.
Tan, 35, is the former private secretary to Ong, who was speculated to contest but announced today he would not.
“I thank all of you for coming and continuing to support me having served as your representative.
“This year, I am not contesting,” he said.

Chua Soi Lek got Najib to dump his arch enemy, Ong Tee Keat, and nominated Gary Lim, HIS man, for the Pandan Parliamentary seat.
But look at what Gary Lim faces?

Gary Lim probed for ‘impersonation’
MCA’s candidate for the Pandan seat is under investigation by the Malaysian Bar for allegedly impersonating a partner of a law firm.
PETALING JAYA: MCA’s quest of defending its Pandan parliamentary seat has hit a snag following information that its candidate Gary Lim is being investigated by the Malaysian Bar.
The 39-year-old lawyer is being probed by the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board (ASDB).
A source told FMT that Lim is being allegedly investigated for “misrepresentation and impersonating a partner of a large law firm in Kuala Lumpur”.
The legal firm had lodged a police report against Lim somewhere around late last year or early this year.
According to the source, Lim had misrepresented himself as a lawyer when he was working in a multinational company then.
“He had also obtained the letterhead from the law firm to impersonate a lawyer,” said the source.
A complaint against Lim was filed with the Bar Council’s disciplinary committee several days ago.
The source revealed that Lim maintains his innocence.

The MCA Pandan candidate, lawyer Gary Lim, said that he was warned of attempts to sabotage his candidacy for the parliamentary seat.
“My car was broken into the day after I got my watikah (letter of appointment), and the bag which I used to carry the watikah was stolen. Luckily, the watikah was not in there.
The Special Branch warned me that there may be attempts to sabotage my watikah,” Lim – who is also the Chinese party’s legal bureau head – told Malaysiakini today.
He said this when asked to comment on whether allegations that he is being investigated for misconduct by the Malaysian Bar are part of a smear campaign against his candidacy.
On that matter, Lim (above) said that he is unaware of any investigations and is in turn probing the claim being carried by online news portals.

THERE IS BAD HISTORY BETWEEN CHUA SOI EK AND ONG TEE KEAT.
MCA president Chua Soi Lek deposed Ong as MCA president in 2010, but Ong Tee Keat is still a popular figure with independent Chinese voters and significant numbers within BN.
YES, CHUA SOI LEK HAS GOT HIS WISH!
He wanted Ong Tee Keat, the incumbent MP for Pandan, out of the way. No way could he allow his arch enemy to run for re-election! So out went Ong Tee Keat and in came Chua Soi Lek’s man, Gary Lim, who will be up against PKR’s “expose man” Rafizi Ramli in the May 5 polls.
Yes, Chua Soi Lek got his way.He may even get a bonus: Ong Tee Keat may leave MCA. One less enemy for Chua Soi Lek!
At what price? The loss of Pandan to Pakatan Rakyat?
It could then be ONE MORE NAIL IN MCA’S COFFIN!

Residents interviewed by FMT said they would support Ong if he were to stand in Pandan as an independent candidate, but many of them added that they were still harbouring the hope that BN would change its mind.
Many said they would organise themselves to ensure mass voting for Ong.
“We will make sure Gary Lim loses his deposit,” said a resident who identified himself only as Tan.

Pandan folk root for Tee Keat
Protesters urge BN to field him as its direct candidate
KUALA LUMPUR: Various residents associations in the Pandan area have been rallying in support of outgoing MP Ong Tee Keat since it was confirmed early this week that MCA will be fielding newcomer Gary Lim in his place.
Last night, in one of the rallies, more than 300 residents of Cahaya Indah gathered in their neighbourhood and displayed placards urging Barisan Nasional to field him as a direct candidate of the coalition.
“Ong is a role model for BN leaders,” a spokesman for the residents, YC Lee, said.
“He has proven his dedication, commitment and integrity in serving the voters in this constituency in all these years.
“We are asking, ‘Why has Barisan changed the candidate for Pandan?’
“The residents, especially flat owners and traders and business operators, are happy with his service and proud of him.”

Tee Keat says no choice if forced to leave MCA
Ong is popular with independent Chinese voters and significant numbers within BN. — File picKUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat said today he does not want to leave the MCA, but stressed that the people’s wishes are more important in Election 2013.
The incumbent Pandan MP, however, did not specify if he would contest as an independent in the May 5 polls after the MCA fielded lawyer Gary Lim in the federal constituency.
“I am now in a tight spot,” said Ong in an interview with Malay daily Sinar Harian published today.
“I have no other choice, this is the only way. First they bring me down, then they alienate me, and now they get rid of me. However, the party platform is not the only way for us to fight; our spirit and heart are more important in our struggle,” he added.
PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli, who will contest the Pandan seat, said yesterday that a three-way fight would benefit Barisan Nasional (BN).
Ong’s supporters and followers have organised several gatherings in the past few days to express their support for him ahead of Nomination Day tomorrow.

BN’s Pandan hopeful Gary Lim hit by professional misconduct, fraud allegations
Screenshot of Lim’s Facebook page. Lim says he is not aware that he is under investigation by the Bar Council.KUALA LUMPUR, April 19 — Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Pandan candidate Gary Lim is likely to face a disciplinary hearing of the Malaysian Bar to answer allegations of professional misconduct and fraud, in a development that will cloud the lawyer’s chances in the May 5 polls.
The Malaysian Insider understands a hearing before the disciplinary committee of the Advocates and Solicitors Disciplinary Board (ASDB) is likely after the Bar received complaints of legal misrepresentation and potential fraud against the 38-year-old old Lim, who was earlier this week named as the coalition’s man for the Pandan parliamentary seat.
It is understood the complaint involves allegations of misrepresentation involving a major law firm here.
He is also alleged to have breached a condition of his legal practise certificate.
“He’s likely to face a hearing of the disciplinary committee,” a source with the Bar Council said, on condition of anonymity.
The ASDB is a body set up by law to investigate professional misconduct.
Lim denied knowledge of any investigation over professional misconduct allegations when contacted last night.
“I don’t know,” he told The Malaysian Insider over the phone.
He said he had not been informed that he was under any probe nor had he received any show-cause letter from the Bar Council as at the time of contact.
According to Lim, the council will initiate its own inquiry and issue a letter to the lawyer being investigated to defend himself first before being referred to the independent disciplinary board.
He added that it depended on the kind of alleged misconduct, which could range from a client being dissatisfied with the lawyer’s service to something more serious, such as fraud.
“I have very little knowledge of what’s going on,” he said, of affairs in the legal fraternity.
The lawyer, who is replacing incumbent Pandan MP Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat, said he had stopped his legal practice about a year ago due to his duties as the MCA legal bureau chief for the party’s Pandan division.
