Maria: I expect police to arrest me again
Bersih 2.0 chairperson vows at candlelight vigil in Dataran Merdeka to continue struggle.
KUALA LUMPUR: Bersih 2.0 chairperson Maria Chin Abdullah expects to be arrested again by the authorities under a different act, but maintained it would not shake her spirit.
“I hope we will continue our struggle. But they (police) will investigate me again and it will be the same issue as when I was detained under Sosma.
“They will continue this investigation. I don’t know what will happen to me next. But whatever happens to me, I hope we will continue our work in our struggle and to abolish Sosma.”
Maria will attend a habeas corpus hearing tomorrow (Tuesday) at the Kuala Lumpur High Court in Jalan Duta.
The 60-year old was arrested on Nov 18 during a police raid on Bersih 2.0’s headquarters in Petaling Jaya.
She was released today after being detained in an undisclosed location for 10 days under the Security Offences (Special Measures) Act 2012 (Sosma).

Interrogation daily
Maria said police kept asking whether she received funds from the Open Society Foundations (OSF), founded by hedge-fund billionaire George Soros.
“Every day I was being interrogated. They (police) kept repeating the same question so that I would admit to something I had never done.
“First, Bersih has never taken money from Soros. We have never accepted a single sen.
“Second, Bersih’s accounts are published on our website and they can be checked there.
“But they still don’t believe us. They think we have RM3.2 billion in our account,” she said to a crowd of 300 supporters at a candlelight vigil at Dataran Merdeka here today.
It was claimed by Red Shirts leader Jamal Yunos yesterday that DC Leaks had unveiled Soros as the source of funding for three Malaysian organisations, which allegedly received a total of RM3.2 billion over several years.
