IGP protected Guan Eng when debate was cancelled, Rahman claims
The inspector-general of police’s order to cancel a debate between the then-housing, local government and urban wellbeing minister and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng had protected the latter from the risk of self-incrimination, said Abdul Rahman Dahlan.
The then-housing minister said unlike the upcoming debate between Tourism and Culture Minister Nazri Abdul Aziz and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) chairperson Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Lim was under an investigation on the debate topic whereas Nazri and Mahathir are not.

Rahman Dahlan hits back at Guan Eng’s ‘chicken’ comment
PETALING JAYA: Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Abdul Rahman Dahlan has hit back at Lim Guan Eng after the DAP secretary-general called him “chicken” for withdrawing from a proposed debate last year.
Lim had been commenting on the debate between federal minister Mohamed Nazri Aziz and former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad, saying that it should be allowed to continue.
He also said Nazri was brave, unlike Rahman, praising the tourism and culture minister for being a “warrior in the Cabinet”.
“After all, not every minister is chicken like Abdul Rahman Dahlan, who challenged me for a debate and then chickened out,” the Penang chief minister said in a press conference at his office in Komtar, in George Town, today.
Lim was referring to Rahman’s withdrawal from a public debate on alleged irregularities surrounding a property in Taman Manggis, George Town.
Today, Rahman took to Twitter to express his displeasure with Lim’s criticism of him.
Using his Twitter handle @mpkotabelud, the minister said the debate between Nazri and Mahathir was different as they were not under investigation over their debate topics.
“LGE forgot I had faced off with Tony Pua, Rafizi, Sivarasa, Mujaheed, Yusmadi, Tian Chua many times publicly & I debated oppo in parlimen!
“Unlike LGE, Nazri & Dr M not under investigations over their debate topics. I can’t believe LGE doesn’t understand this crucial difference,” Rahman tweeted.
“Our planned debate stopped on advice of PDRM. Events showed this was right decision. Shortly later, Lim charged w 2 counts of corruption!”

‘Sue me’ call a ploy to escape debate, says Guan Eng
Federal Minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan attempting to bury Taman Manggis debate for good, claims Penang CM Lim.

GEORGE TOWN: Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng says federal minister Abdul Rahman Dahlan’s call to sue him was just a tactic to escape the controversial and now deferred Taman Manggis debate.
Lim said he had called Rahman’s bluff and the call to sue was a veiled attempt to ensure the debate was buried.
“Rahman is so desperate to chicken out of his own debate challenge that he is now issuing a new challenge to me to sue him for defamation.
“He knows if I sue him for defamation, then he can easily use the excuse of sub-judice as the reason for not debating me,” Lim said in a statement today.
Lim gave an example of the prime minister’s RM2.6 billion donation issue, which was made off-limits to be argued in Parliament due to sub-judice. This was following the Bar Council’s application for judicial review on the matter.
“Clearly, the same rules will apply and the whole drama and sandiwara (drama) will be replayed, with Rahman taking advice not to proceed with the debate as the matter is now in court and will only debate me after the defamation suit is dealt with.
“I will not fall into the same trap. Let us debate first to clarify the truth and prove who is lying before talking about defamation suits in court.
