Talk now arises that @MukhrizMahathir will be expelled from Umno https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/329240

Following his resignation as Kedah menteri besar, there is now speculation that Mukhriz Mahathir will also be expelled from Umno.
This may or may not become a reality – but at least Mukhriz has the sympathy of pro-Najib Umno blog MyKMU on the matter.
A recent posting on the blog says those who support Mukhriz should not be too worried about his future if Mukhriz is purged from Umno.
As the son of Dr Mahathir Mohamad, if he doesn’t ‘waste’ this ‘aura’, it would not be impossible for him to become the president of Umno one day, and thus the prime minister, noted the unnamed writer.
Just look at what had happened to his father. Mahathir was expelled from Umno and even went on to the PAS stage.
“Najib’s father (Malaysia’s second prime minister Abdul Razak Hussein) plucked him (Mahathir) out of political obscurity, nurtured him and polished his skills in politics until he reached the country’s top political spot.
“So, don’t be despondent. If it is fated, maybe Mukhriz will become the first prime minister from PAS.
“No one can predict the future, right?”
‘A disciplinary action’
And should Muhkriz get expelled, it is to be understood that this will only be a disciplinary action against those who have gone against the democracy practised in Umno, added the writer.
“Najib is a president who appreciates criticism. But to criticise a ‘father’, you must do it at home so that the family’s reputation will not be affected.”

Beware, I won’t be silenced, warns Mukhriz
The outgoing Kedah menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir said the move to oust him was to silence him over his criticisms against RM2.6 billion donation issue and 1MDB.
“But now I feel independent and free and won’t be silenced.”
When asked if he will quit politics, Mukhriz said: “No, it’s in my blood. If people still want me, I will continue.”
He also told a press conference at the state administrative office in Wisma Darul Aman that he has turned down an offer from Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak for a post of deputy minister.
In explaining why he was shown the door, Mukhriz said it was due to his repeated calls for Najib to review the six percent goods and services tax (GST) which had burdened the people.
Asked if he would continue raising these issues, Mukhriz said he had more opportunities to do so now.

MCA exco denies signing SD, says ‘we are all innocent’
Dr Leong Yong Kong says it is “very normal” for rumours to spread.
PETALING JAYA: An MCA assemblyman has denied being approached to sign any statutory declaration supporting the removal of Mukhriz Mahathir as Kedah Menteri Besar.
When asked, Environment, Chinese Community Affairs, Health and Unity exco Dr Leong Yong Kong said “we are all innocent people.”
“We surrender everything to the highest hierarchy,” he told FMT rather cryptically.
He was responding to a report by The Star that 19 assemblymen, two of whom were from MCA, had signed the SD.

Dr M: Unseating Mukhriz will doom Barisan in Kedah
LANGKAWI: Those working to unseat Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir will lead Barisan Nasional to its doom in the next general election, predicts former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
“I’m not saying don’t change the mentri besar, but know the consequences,” he said Monday.
He said those who wanted to remove the present mentri besar “don’t have a good reputation”.
“They caused Barisan to lose to PAS (in 2008). So if they take over, the likelihood is that they will lose in the next election.”

…
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 25 — All but two of the 21 Barisan Nasional (BN) assemblymen in Kedah have signed statutory declarations supporting the removal of Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, according to The Star today.
Quoting unnamed sources, the report said that 17 Umno and two MCA assemblymen signed the SD, with the only holdout being Datuk Aminuddin Omar. Mukhriz is the other remaining BN representative.
“As of late this evening, 19 have already signed statutory declaration stating their support for the removal of the mentri besar.
“All of them have endorsed the SD saying that they have lost confidence in Mukhriz,” the report quoted one source as saying.
There are 36 state seats in Kedah, with BN holding 21. A minimum of 19 seats is needed to demonstrate that Mukhriz has lost the confidence of the majority in the state assembly.
The report quoted another source as saying that the Kedah royal house was the final hurdle to ousting Mukhriz, and that a swearing-in ceremony for a new MB would take place the moment the palace gave its consent.
The same source said Kedah Umno deputy chief Datuk Seri Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah, who heads the group seeking to oust Mukhriz, remains to be the leading candidate, although the palace has requested for more names to be included in the proposal.

Kedah Umno leaders mum on anti-Mukhriz meeting
Kedah Umno leaders emerging from a meeting with the party president over their revolt against state Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir were mum over their discussion this evening.
Two federal lawmakers from the state, Datuk Seri Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim from Baling dan Dr Mansor Abd Rahman from Sik refused to speak about what was discussed at the meeting or about the outcome.
Azeez would only say that their talk with Umno president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, who had left the meeting early, had gone well.
“Everything went well, there’s nothing to it. I can’t comment,” the Baling MP said. The meeting at the Umno headquarters at the Putra World Trade Centre saw Najib leave early while the Kedah party leaders continued their discussion.
One of them who did not want to be named said the group was still adamant that Mukhriz should step down.
“He should not be given a second chance. We are united on this,” he said.
The group today was led by Kedah Umno deputy liaison chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
He had led the press conference on Wednesday calling for Mukhriz’s ouster.

The Kedah Saga #kedah #umno #mukhrizmahathir #mentribesar #mutiny https://jebatmustdie.wordpress.com/2016/01/22/the-kedah-saga/ …
The comment is as below:
By any measure, merely looking at the countenance of the Kedah Umno leaders and that of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, the latter looks more trustworthy and dependable compared to some of those seeking to remove him as the Kedah Mentri Besar.
That however is very superficial and indeed subscribing to the shallow notion of judging books by their covers.
But “open the books” and the very first chapter will reveal that some of the “mutineers” have got no moral standing to judge Mukhriz let alone call for his resignation.
For one, the likes of the chief mutineer Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanifah, is part of the Umno/Barisan Nasional team that lost Kedah to PAS in the 2008 general election.
Worse is Education Minister Datuk Seri Mahadzir Khalid, though not present during the press conference calling for Mukhriz’s ouster, had explicitly stated his support for Bashah’s move, ignoring that he was the Kedah Mentri Besar when Umno/BN fell in 2008.

State Umno leaders, state representatives as well as members of Parliament had collectively announced that they had lost confidence in Mukhriz’s leadership of as both the Menteri Besar and state Umno chief.
Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah had told a press conference that all 15 of the state’s division leaders and wing leaders were seeking the prime minister’s intervention for a change in leadership in the state.

However, this may not be the truth.
Not all Kedah excos on same page in Mukhriz saga

…
The open rebellion declared against Kedah Menteri Besar Mukhriz Mahathir has highlighted cracks in his state government with at least one exco present at the press conference denouncing his leadership.
According to Berita Harian, state exco Tajul Urus Mat Zain admitted to being present during the press conference but claimed he was not aware of the circumstances when he was invited to the press conference.
However, he made no effort to re-pledge his support for Mukhriz but merely said he disagreed with Kedah Umno deputy chief Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah’s methods in declaration open confrontation against Mukhriz.
“There were questions on whether this was the right method… the issue of leadership is normal but it’s the method (of raising the issue).
“When I arrived I was asking questions about it but in the end I complied (with the rest),” he said.
In contrast, two other exco members Suraya Yaacob and Aminuddin Omar were critical of the press conference and disputed Bashah’s claim that Mukhriz has lost majority support.
“It cannot be said that the entire Kedah Umno leadership rejects the menteri besar.
“If that’s the case even Umno branch leaders would be against him.
“That (claim) is only representative of those who were there (at the press conference),” she was quoted as saying by the newspaper.
Suraya added that she was not invited to press conference and would not have endorsed it anyway.

Does Kedah Umno have the numbers to oust Mukhriz?

…
KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 21 ― A faction in Kedah Umno wants Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir out as mentri besar, but may be forced to seek support from PAS should a vote of no-confidence be put to the test.
Excluding Mukhriz, Umno controls exactly half or 18 out of the 36-seat assembly. Jitra assemblyman Datuk Aminuddin Omar, who is also a state executive councillor, however, is known to be loyal to Mukhriz.
Four other state executive councillors are also believed to be on Mukhriz’s side, according to a Kedah Umno Youth grassroots leader, namely Datuk Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail (Guar Chempedak), Datuk Suraya Yaacob (Sungai Tiang), Datuk Mohd Rawi Abd Hamid (Ayer Hangat) and Datuk Norsabrina Mohd Noor (Bandar Baharu).
“As far as I know, Bashah’s claims that 100 per cent of Umno ADUNs are with him is incorrect,” Akhramsyah Muammar Ubaidah Sanusi, head of Umno Youth’s Bendang Baru branch in Langkawi, told Malay Mail Online last night, referring to Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah.
“Note also that most of the ‘ketua bahagian’ are seen supporting Datuk Bashah, such as Datuk Azeez Rahim, Datuk Nawawi [Ahmad] and Datuk Johari Baharom are parliamentarians, not ADUNs. Some are neither in Parliament nor DUN, such as Datuk Rozai Safian.
“So, support from a majority of ‘ketua bahagian’ does not constitute support of the majority of Kedah Umno ADUNs, let alone Kedah Umno, especially at the grassroots level where Mukhriz remains personally very popular!” added the son of Umno veteran Tan Sri Sanusi Junid.
“Ketua bahagian” refers to division leaders, while “ADUN” is the Malay acronym for state assemblyman.

When Kedah Wanita Umno Maznah Hamid was informed about a closed-door meeting at the Grand Alora Hotel in Alor Setar yesterday, she reportedly had no clue what was on the agenda.
According to Sinar Harian, she was only told the session would be with the state Umno leaders.
“As a state wing and division chief, I went (to the meeting) in order to get an update on the party’s latest developments, particularly in Kedah.
“But when I arrived, there was no meeting or briefing.
“Together with several other leaders, we were asked to come forward and participate in the press conference when we did not know what is the real reason for it,” she said.
Maznah was responding to Kedah Umno number two Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah’s declaration that the state Umno has lost confidence in menteri besar Mukhriz Mahathir during the press conference.
The Wanita leader also pointed out that her presence at the press conference should not be misconstrued as supporting the move to oust the menteri besar.
…
Meanwhile, Bandar Baru state-assemblyperson Norsabrina Mohd Noor also said she was not informed of the press conference.
“I was not present and not aware,” she told Malaysiakini in a text message when asked if all Umno state leaders were aware of the move to remove Mukhriz.

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 21): Social media users have joined the “Mukhriz” conversation trending on Twitter, decrying the move by some politicians to oust Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Mukhriz Mahathir, with many blaming the prime minister for the latest scandal.
One Twitter user, using the handle @KhairilAnuar, likened Datuk Seri Najib Razak to Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar with his tweet: “pergh Mukhriz bakal digulingkan kat Kedah. aku terpaksa admit, Najib mmg handal tewaskan musuh2 dia. sebiji macam Pablo Escobar.”
(Mukhriz set to be ousted in Kedah. I have to admit, Najib is really clever in defeating his enemies, very much like Pablo Escobar.)
Another user, Jebart @danialjebart_, implied that the move to expel the son of Malaysia’s longest serving prime minister was orchestrated by corrupt politicians.
In a series of tweets, Jebart posted: “The BN Kedah’s member who are against Mukhriz Mahathir are all involved in fraud. Want me to list the organisation? Easy. YaPeim, TH & FGV.
“Dear BN, u will make a big mistake if u overthrow Mukhriz Mahathir. Kedah will fall to opposition again. Sincerely, Kedahan & Malaysian.”
…
Hafiz Noor Shams, using the handle @__earth, said the proper way was to go back to the state assembly and not allow certain characters to make the decision regarding who should be menteri besar of Kedah.
“For Kedah, do the right thing and go to the DUN. Let the people’s representatives decide instead of shadowy men in the backroom”.
Others such as Effi Saharudin, however, saw the move as inevitable.
Using the Twitter handle @1Obefiend, Effi posted: “Mukhriz is weak. Last party election he was meek. Najib knows this. Now the army of house Razak will move north and destroy Mahathirfell.”

Experts: Only state assembly, regency council can oust @MukhrizMahathir https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/327692

…
The position of Mukhriz Mahathir as Menteri Besar of Kedah can only be decided via a vote of no confidence in the Kedah State Assembly or the power vested in the Council of Regency, said constitutional experts.
Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) law faculty, law professor Shad Saleem Faruqi said if the Kedah state assembly was in session, the position of Mukhriz must be decided based on the support of the state assemblyperson in the state.
“His position in the assembly depends on majority support that he gains whether it is from government’s assemblymen or other assemblymen,” he told Bernama.
However, he said, if the Kedah State Assembly was not in session currently, the power to decide on the position of Mukhriz was subjected to the power of the Council of Regency, as the Sultan of Kedah, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah at the moment is the Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
“For the time being, we have to wait and see what will happen next,” he said.

Sultan must step in if Kedah MB issue prolongs, says constitutional expert http://bit.ly/1QfK85X

…
Now that Kedah Umno has openly declared its loss of confidence in Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, it is up to the palace to step in and resolve the situation, said constitutional expert Dr Abdul Aziz Bari.
The Universiti Selangor (Unisel) lecturer said last night’s solidarity gathering for Mukhriz in Alor Star poked holes in Kedah Umno deputy chairman Datuk Ahmad Bashah Md Hanipah’s claim that Mukhriz no longer had support.
“The key is in the hands of the sultan because both sides are flexing their muscles and refusing to enter the battlefield.
“Ahmad Bashah refuses to table a vote of no-confidence and is merely using press conferences to urge Mukhriz to step down, while the menteri besar is hiding behind the ‘people’,” Aziz told The Malaysian Insider.
He said a state legislative assembly sitting could be called to put to the test Kedah Umno’s claim that Mukhriz was suffering from a loss of confidence.
He said Mukhriz could also seek an audience with the Kedah sultan and request that the assembly be dissolved.
But Aziz said regardless of the two options, the palace must call for an assembly sitting so that Ahmad Bashah and his supporters could prove their claims.
“This must be done before the state assembly is dissolved,” said Aziz.

Umno leaders in #Malaysia‘s Kedah try to oust Mukhriz http://bit.ly/1Nlbt2b

…
State party bosses say they have lost confidence in chief minister’s leadership
Kedah chief minister Mukhriz Mahathir suffered a blow yesterday after his Umno party’s state leaders declared a loss of confidence in his leadership and demanded his removal by Prime Minister Najib Razak.
Datuk Seri Mukhriz, who is the son of former prime minister Mahathir Mohamad, was accused of poor leadership by state party leaders. Many of them, as well as the party’s assemblymen in the state, asked for his removal from his posts as chief minister, or Menteri Besar, and Kedah Umno liaison chief.
Party leaders, in a statement, said they have “lost trust and confidence in the leadership of Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir”.
…
The bid to remove Mr Mukhriz came as his father, Tun Dr Mahathir, yesterday said he had not given up his campaign to remove Datuk Seri Najib from office.
…
Kedah Umno’s decision to turn its back on Mr Mukhriz comes a month after the party’s nationwide summit, where party delegates and leaders showed their support for Mr Najib, who is the party’s president.
“After Tun Dr Mahathir’s attacks against Najib, in the context of Umno, they were waiting for the right time to strike back,” said Universiti Selangor political analyst Shaharuddin Badaruddin.
…
As for Mr Mukhriz, Mr Azizuddin said “he has been vocal in criticising Najib on various issues, and he stood by his father’s side”. The move by Kedah Umno leaders to oust Mr Mukhriz was likely supported by Mr Najib’s government, he added.
He said: “Without the approval from Putrajaya, there wouldn’t be a press conference. They’ve got the blessings, and that’s why this is happening,” he said. Putrajaya is the federal government’s administrative centre near Kuala Lumpur. “I don’t think this is about Mukhriz’s performance in Kedah,” Mr Azizuddin said. “Najib wants someone he can trust to lead the state.”
