A photograph of former MCA president Ling Liong Sik at a Bersih 4 rally in Perth, Australia has raised eyebrows.
Ling was spotted at around 1pm yesterday at Langley Park where the participants had converged in solidarity with the Bersih 4 protest in Kuala Lumpur.
One Bersih 4 participant, Tan Pan Maw, who spotted Ling (photo), took a photograph with the elder statesman.
“Less than 10 people actually recognised him, a few took photo with him, me and my friend went to him to take a photo,” he told Malaysiakini.
“He asked our names and we asked whether he now lives in Perth, he said he just visiting,” added Tan.
Tan said Ling wore a pale yellow top and was accompanied with a man with a Bersih T-shirt.
“I’m not sure if they are related,” he said.
Tan said he spotted Ling when the over 1,000 participants were about to march to the Malaysian consulate.
“He didn’t walk with us to the consulate but left after that,” said Tan.

‘Bersih 4 Global Countdown’ campaign launched to draw overseas support
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 — Several non-governmental organisations affiliated with the upcoming Bersih 4 rally today launched the “Bersih 4 Global Countdown”, a social media initiative that provides an avenue to the group’s overseas supporters to participate in the coming event.
To take part, Bersih 4 supporters outside Malaysia can upload photographs indicating the number of hours left on the clock before the rally is kicked off here next Saturday.
The campaign was launched today by electoral reform group Bersih 2.0, spin-off chapter Bersih Shanghai and the internationally registered Global Bersih.
“We believe Malaysians residing overseas they eagerly want to contribute and participate in Bersih 4, but because they are overseas… therefore we come out with this campaign allowing them to also participate by taking a photo indicating their name, city and how many hours towards the Bersih 4 in Malaysia.
“We have a dedicated Facebook page for this countdown so we will post up their picture there,” Bersih Shanghai representative Johnson Chew said during the launching of the campaign today.

IGP: M’sians joining protests overseas must know of consequences
BEIJING: Malaysians who are planning to join protest rallies overseas should be mindful of local laws, Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said.
In issuing a firm reminder, the Inspector-General of Police said that should they break any laws, they would have to face the consequences.
“It is up to the local authorities to take the appropriate action,” he said when met in the Chinese capital here.
The IGP was here on a two-day official visit, his first to China.
Shanghai, Shenzhen, Suzhou and Hong Kong are among the Chinese cities listed as locations where Bersih rallies will be held.
Khalid said he was aware that organisers of Bersih would be holding simultaneous demonstrations in several countries, including China, Australia and the United Kingdom.
