‘Malaysia, what else are you hiding?’
The Chinese premier told Najib to provide more details about the missing flight.
BEIJING: Relatives of Chinese passengers aboard a missing Malaysia Airlines plane voiced fury Monday, accusing the Malaysian government of “talking nonsense” as Premier Li Keqiang backed their demand for more information.
Li in a phone call asked his Malaysian counterpart Najib Tun Razak to provide more details about the missing flight “in a timely, accurate and comprehensive manner”, state news agency Xinhua reported.
Anguished relatives echoed his call.
“Only the Malaysia government knows the truth. They’ve been talking nonsense since the beginning,” said Wen Wancheng, following a meeting with airline officials in Beijing as the search entered its 10th day.
“You (Malaysia) hid the whereabouts from the beginning and after seven to eight days you discovered it? That was the best time to launch a rescue,” added the 63-year-old from the eastern province of Shandong, whose son was aboard the missing jet.
Another relative who left the meeting told AFP: “Of course there is no useful information for us, there never is.”
Malaysia also drew more scathing criticism from Chinese state media and social media users.

Distrust adding to jet confusion
Governments are reluctant to share the military radar data because it would reveal their capabilities and compromise security.
MANILA: Deep distrust between Asian neighbours and sensitive security issues are jamming essential communication lines in the chaotic hunt for a Malaysia Airlines plane, analysts said Thursday.
Bickering between Malaysia, China and others involved in trying to solve the baffling weekend disappearance of the jet has exposed longstanding tensions and prevented a coordinated response, they said.
“There clearly are communication problems on multiple levels. There is an underlying lack of trust in these matters,” Bridget Welsh, an associate professor of political science at Singapore Management University, told AFP.
“The issues of protecting territory, security intelligence and interests are starting to win over the common goal of finding the plane and closure.”

*LATEST: THIS IS NOT FROM MH370

Damaged life raft off PD not from MH370
It is back to square one once again as a news report confirms that the life raft found by fishermen in Port Dickson is not from flight MH370.
The New Straits Times alert was also tweeted by Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Razali Ismail.
Earlier, the daily reported that the damaged life raft with the word “Boarding” was discovered at noon.
…
Earlier, a Chinese rescue vessel had retrieved a floating object from the sea and there appears a possibility it could be from MH370.
The object, according to China’s Xinhua news agency, was found at the location over which the plane is said to have possibly disappeared in the early hours of Saturday morning, with 239 people on board.
Xinhua this morning tweeted a picture of two men, said to be from one of the Chinese ships that arrived at the site, trying to fish an orange object from the sea with long sticks (photo: above).
It is yet to be confirmed if the object was from MH370.
Over the past few days, several debris, which were initially spotted, were later found not to be from the aircraft.
Tests on an oil slick had also ruled out aviation fuel.

Missing MH370: MMEA as yet unable to confirm if life raft from aircraft
MALACCA: The Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency is yet unable to confirm if a life raft found by a group of four fishermen some 10 nautical miles off Port Dickson on Wednesday, is from an aircraft.
Its director-general Maritime Admiral Datuk Mohd Amdan Kurish said MMEA dispatched a team upon receiving a report on the find from the group.
“When the MMEA team tried to get the life raft from the group, the tether broke and it sank … most likely because the rope was frayed,” he told Bernama.
However, he said pictures of the life raft were captured by the group and disseminated on the Internet.

Hisham dismisses allegations that search efforts mired in confusion
KUALA LUMPUR: Transport Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein denied allegations that the hunt for a missing jet was in disarray, after the search veered far from its planned route and several countries were reported to be angry over the “mishandling” of the operation.
Vietnam, whose southern coast had been the focus of the recovery effort, initially suspended its air and sea search as it waited for Malaysia to clarify the new direction of the hunt.
“We’ve decided to temporarily suspend some search and rescue activities pending information from Malaysia,” deputy minister of transport Pham Quy Tieu said, adding that boats were still searching the area, but on a smaller scale.
Army deputy chief of staff Vo Van Tuan said later that “we decided to send two aircraft and nine boats to search”.
China said conflicting information about its course was “pretty chaotic”.

US lawyer slams Malaysia for misleading information on flight MH370
An
American lawyer has criticised Malaysia for fuelling what he describes as misleading speculation over the disappearance of Malaysia Airlines flight MH370.
Steve Marks, a lawyer with American firm Podhurst Orseck, told The Guardian he was suspicious of information being released by Malaysian authorities.
…
“What is so mysterious here is the complete absence of any information, which to me tends to support a complete catastrophic failure at attitude.
“If the aircraft had come under control it would have been picked up by some radar, or some radio confirmation,” Marks told The Guardian.
Marks said the total absence of any information suggests there was a big failure and it was very sudden.
…
David Learmount, operations and safety editor at Flightglobal, told The Guardian that Malaysian investigators should be more transparent.
“The Malaysia authorities are likely to have a lot more information than they are sharing with us,” he said.
“I think the Malaysian military knows a lot more about the position of the aircraft than has come out,” he said.
“But the military don’t appear to be in charge of the search. The problem is that the various government agencies are not communicating effectively.”
He asked: “If they have military tracking information why are they still looking both sides of the [Malaysia] peninsula?”
“It’s impossible to deduce what happened. If a pilot changes the course of an aircraft he usually tells air traffic control straight away,” he added.
…
“There is an all-pervasive sense of a chaotic lack of coordination between the Malaysian agencies which has hindered the establishment of an effective search strategy.”

Conflicting versions over stolen passports
The Immigration Department and Interpol have issued contradicting statements regarding the stolen passports used by two Iranians to board flight MH370.
1. Immigration director-general Aloyah Mamat said the pair had entered Malaysia with the stolen Italian and Austrian passports respectively.
2. However, Interpol said that the duo had travelled from Doha to Kuala Lumpur using their Iranian passports.
Based on Interpol secretary-general Ronald Noble’s statements, the duo had only used the stolen passports in Malaysia when boarding the flight bound for China on March 8.
In its official statement, Interpol had also stated that the National Central Bureau in Tehran had confirmed the identity of two Iranian nationals “who used authentic passports to travel to Kuala Lumpur”.

*WHO WILL THE MALAYSIA AUTHORITIES BLAME FOR RELEASING A PHOTO OF TWO MEN WITH THE SAME PAIR OF LEGS?

Mismatched photos of Iranians trigger doubts
KUALA LUMPUR, March 12 — Authorities’ decision to display what appears to be a combined image of the two Iranians who boarded missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 using stolen passports has now triggered questions over their authenticity.
The photographs were displayed when Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar revealed the identity of one of the dubious passengers as 19-year-old Pouria Nour Mohammad Mehrdad.
But closer scrutiny of the still image of Pouria taken from surveillance footage and handed out to the media showed that it was a combination of his upper torso stapled over the legs of a second Iranian identified yesterday by Interpol as Delavar Seyed Mohammad Reza, 29.
The discovery had led to allegations that the images were manipulated using photo editing suite Photoshop, but closer inspection suggests the superimposition was physical.
It is unclear why authorities opted to combine parts of Pouria’s image with Delavar’s that were captured when both were passing through a security checkpoint at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on their way to board the still-missing MH370 flight.

As search goes northwest, Vietnam says Malaysia were told MH370 doubled back
March 12, 2014

Viet
nam today disclosed it noticed Flight MH370 had turned back to the west on Saturday and informed Malaysian authorities the same day but received no response.
The revelations came as the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines jet swung northwest towards the Andaman Sea on Wednesday, far from its intended flight path.
“We informed Malaysia on the day we lost contact with the flight that we noticed the flight turned back west but Malaysia did not respond,” Vietnam deputy minister of transport Pham Quy Tieu was quoted as saying by AFP today.
“We’ve asked Malaysian authorities twice, but so far they have not replied to us,” Tieu said, when asked about a media report that the plane had been detected over the Strait of Malacca.
Vietnam scaled back its efforts today to locate flight MH370, which was carrying 239 passengers and crew, on the South China Sea where the jet last made contact on a journey between Kuala Lumpur and Beijing.

Experts slam Malaysia’s struggle to chart MH370 crisis
March 12, 2014
Criticised for contradictory statements, slow reactions and a lack of information, the “incompetence” of Malaysian authorities in communicating effectively during a crisis on the scale of its missing jet is painfully evident, analysts say.
With the search for flight MH370 now swinging away from the original zone, the airline and the government are accused of floundering as they face increasing demands for clarity.
“They have not experienced anything of this magnitude. It’s a bit difficult for them to grasp the scale,” Shukor Yusof, aviation analyst at Standard and Poor’s Capital IQ, told AFP.

IGP contradicts DCA on MH370 passengers
Police chief Khalid Abu Bakar says only one person cancelled her ticket because she had mistaken the date of the flight.
PETALING JAYA: Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar today refuted claims by the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) that several passengers who had checked in did not board the fateful Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370.
In a press conference today, Khalid revealed that only one person had missed the flight.
“Only one person missed the flight, and it was a lady. She had called Malaysia Airlines to cancel the ticket because she had mistaken the date,” said Khalid.
His statement contradicted DCA director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman’s previous statement that five people had purchased the plane tickets and had even checked in their baggage but did not make the flight.
Azharuddin had then confirmed that MAS had removed the passengers’ baggage after the national carrier learned that the five people did not board the plane.
However when asked by reporters today, Khalid stressed that no such incident had occurred.
“There is no such thing as five persons who did not board the plane. There is no such thing,” said the police chief.

Zahid sees red: European names but Asian faces?
Home Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has hit out at immigration officers at KLIA over its passport gaffe in allowing imposters with European identities to board missing Malaysia Airlines (MAS) flight MH370, despite having Asian features.
“I am still puzzled how come (immigration officers) cannot think, an Italian and Austrian (passengers) but with Asian facial features,” he was quoted saying by national news agency Bernama yesterday.
As such, Zahid said, a detailed probe would be conducted, with special attention on the department’s KL International Airport (KLIA) branch.
“We will conduct an internal probe, particularly on the officers who were on duty at the KLIA Immigration counter during flight MH370,” he is quoted as saying.

Media bullying DCA chief on MH370, says Shahidan
Shahidan Kassim, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, has refuted claims that Malaysia has failed to manage the MH370 incident well, although he acknowledged that there may be weaknesses in media engagement.
Even then, he claimed, it is because Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) director-general Azharuddin Abdul Rahman (in brown shirt) is being “bullied” by the international media.
“What did we do that is considered weak? Perhaps in terms of reports (to the media)… But the reports are fine. It is the additional questions that I think he (Azharuddin) need not answer.
“People talk about the way the DCA director-general answers questions. The problem is not that, it is the (news) reports.
“In terms of him presenting his reports, how is that nonsense? He is being bullied now because of the additional questions fielded, which I think he does not need to answer.
“After presenting his reports, he should just walk off,” Shahidan told journalists at the Parliament lobby today.
