The family of custodial death victim N Dhamendran wants action against Kuala Lumpur CID chief Ku Chin Wah for his initial statement on Dhamendran’s alleged murder.
The victim’s widow S Marry said that Ku’s statement on May 22 contradicts the Kuala Lumpur hospital (HKL) pathologist’s report.
“My family and I believe that (Ku’s) statement was made with malicious intent to cover up the case of my husband’s murder,” she said in her report at the Bukit Aman police headquarters.
The day after Dhamendran was found dead in a lock-up on May 21, Ku (left) was reported as attributing the death to “breathing difficulties”.
However, two days later, a consultant pathologist from HKL found that the deceased had died from “multiple bunt force trauma”.
Her report was accepted by ASP Ramia Kanabathi of the complaint records unit of the IGP secretariat (disciplinary department).
No report to ‘toothless’ EAIC
Three police personnel have been charged with the murder on June 5, whereas a fourth suspect is still at large.
According to lawyer G Sivamalar (far right), who had accompanied Marry (centre in photo) this morning and who is acting on behalf of the family, they will contact Bukit Aman in a week’s time for the response to their complaint.
“This is a police misconduct by a senior officer. So we want the police to investigate this matter, and the officer in question be given a lesson,” she added.

Caught lying about the cause of Dharmendran’s death: CID chief Ku Chin Wah in hot soup?
Written by Lawyers for Liberty
The family of Dhamendran (a death in custody victim), accompanied by LFL lawyers will be handing over a disciplinary complaint (aduan tatatertib) against Datuk Ku Chin Wah, Head of the Kuala Lumpur Crime Investigation Department tomorrow.
This complaint will be filed because of a misleading statement made by Datuk Ku Chin Wah in a press conference dated 22 May 2013 regarding the circumstances of Dhamendran’s death. Datuk Ku had claimed that Dhamendran complained of chest pains, was taken to the hospital and pronounced dead on arrival at 9pm, in spite of clear signs of physical torture inflicted on Dhamendran’s body and a postmortem report confirming such violence.
Lawyer G. Sivamalar will be present.
