A number of artists on the popular audio streaming service Spotify have asked for their songs to be taken down because of what they say is the platform’s spreading of misinformation about COVID-19./

Singer-songwriter Neil Young was the first to start this trend, urging “other artists and record companies” to “move off the Spotify platform and stop supporting Spotify’s deadly misinformation about COVID.”

On Jan. 26, 2022, Young followed through with his threat to remove his music from the streaming platform if the streaming service refused to part ways with Rogan.

Spotify failed to drop Rogan’s podcast, and Young removed his music from the streaming platform.

Joni Mitchell

On Jan. 28, fellow singer-songwriter Joni Mitchell sided with Young, saying she would scrub her music from the streaming service’s catalog.

“I’ve decided to remove all my music from Spotify,” Mitchell said in a statement. “Irresponsible people are spreading lies that are costing people their lives. I stand in solidarity with Neil Young and the global scientific and medical communities on this issue.”

Nils Lofgren

On Jan. 29, Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band guitarist Nils Lofgren joined Mitchell and Young in scrubbing his music from the streaming platform.

“Neil and I go back 53 years,” Lofgren said in a statement on his website.

“We encourage all musicians, artists and music lovers everywhere, to stand with us all, and cut ties with Spotify. … Pick up your sword and start swinging! Neil always has. Stand with him, us (Joni Mitchell!), and others. It’s a powerful action YOU can all take NOW, to honor truth, humanity and the heroes risking their lives every day to save ours.”

Researcher Brené Brown, who according to The Los Angeles Times, made a multiyear deal with Spotify to host her podcasts, stopped releasing new episodes for her series “Unlocking Us” and “Dare to Lead” three days after Young pulled his music from the platform.

“I will not be releasing any podcasts until further notice,” Brown tweeted Jan. 29. “To our #UnlockingUs and #DaretoLead communities, I’m sorry and I’ll let you know if and when that changes. Stay awkward, brave, and kind.”

Rogan’s video post lasted about 10 minutes and he spoke about the challenges of preparing for his shows that are unscripted and free-flowing

By Edmund DeMarcheFOXBusiness

Joe Rogan, the popular podcast host on Spotify, broke his silence Sunday after rocker Neil Young accused his show of peddling misinformation about COVID-19 that led to a public rebuke and the eventual removal of his songs from the streaming service.

Rogan’s video post lasted about 10 minutes. He spoke about the challenges of preparing for his shows that are unscripted and free-flowing. He defended his interviews with Dr. Peter McCullough, a cardiologist, and Dr. Robert Malone, an infectious disease specialist, that resulted in some criticism and apparently led to Young’s decision to call on his songs being removed from the platform.

Rogan offered some background on his guests and argued that their opinions were worth hearing. McCullough has been widely published and Malone is considered one of the leading experts on mRNA technology, which is used in the Pfizer and Moderna jabs.

He challenged the word “misinformation” given that so much is still being learned about COVID-19. He said Spotify will begin to put a disclaimer at the beginning of these sorts of interviews, and he will also consider following them up with an expert with a different opinion.

“I’m going to do my best, in the future, to balance things out…I’m going to do my best,” he said. “But my point of doing this, always, is just to create interesting conversations and ones that I hope people enjoy.”

  1. This article, based on tweets, is promoting misinformation. To-date, only Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, and Nils Lofgren have requested their catalogs be removed from Spotify. Check your facts.
