GEORGE TOWN: Police have stepped up patrols in Sungai Pinang and its surrounding areas following reports of attempted kidnapping of factory workers in the neighbourhood.

Northeast district police chief Assistant Commissioner Mior Faridalatrash Wahid said police have, to date, received eight reports from female workers of a garment factory in the area.

“In the reports, the workers claimed that the suspects came in a car or a van and tried to pull them into the vehicles between Aug 28 and Aug 30.

.

“We have checked the closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the area and found several leads which can assist in our investigation.

.

“For now, we have intensified patrolling in the area to ensure the safety of the workers and nearby residents,” he said in a media statement released this evening.
