Kindergarten’s headmaster says the pictures were taken in 2014 during a play meant to raise funds for war victims in Syria and Palestine.
PETALING JAYA: Pictures of kindergarten students parading in military costumes while holding toy guns have gone viral on social media.
The kindergarten caught in the controversy has come out to defend itself, stating that the students were taking part in a play depicting the Palestinian-Isreali conflict, according to the New Straits Times.
Tadika Hidayah Bestari’s headmistress, who did not want to be named, said the play was held in 2014, together with the Malaysian Consultative Council of Islamic Organisations (Mapim), which is a non-governmental organisation.
The headmistress clarified that parents who attended the play donated money to Mapim, which was raising funds for war victims in Syria and Palestine.
She added that some of their plays involved the environment and the pre-schoolers wore costumes depicting plants and animals.

The headmistress added that the teacher who uploaded the pictures was no longer working in the kindergarten.

‘Militant’ kindy on police radar
PETALING JAYA, May 5 — The kindergarten at the centre of an online storm over photographs showing plastic gun-toting children in military fatigues has been under police radar since last year.
Bukit Aman Special Branch director Datuk Seri Fuzi Harun confirmed this to Malay Mail yesterday after the photographs shared by lawyer Siti Kassim were widely circulated on social media.
“We have already been investigating the school from last year. If we find enough evidence that suggest such (militant) ideologies are being taught, we will move in on them,” he said when contacted.
Checks revealed that several kindergarten teachers, one of whom works in the Kota Damansara kindergarten implicated in the photographs, had uploaded the images onto their Instagram accounts.
Apart from the picture of kids carrying toy guns, another photograph in the collection showed children dressed in full headscarves and holding the Palestinian flag.

Apparently these photos were on Instagram posted by a teacher from a kindergarten in Kota Damansara!! It’s called Tadika Bistari. The teacher and the kids are holding weapons! Maybe plastic but a kindergarden? In a pre-school? WTF is she teaching??
They are from this school called KUDQI (Kolej University Darul Quran Islamiyah). I was told its a branch of Jemaah Islamiyah! Their headquarters is in Terengganu.
What kind of Islam do you think they are teaching the kids you think? I hope the authorities will look into this….
