Now a hailstorm to compound the floods for my friends in K.L., courtesy of the incompetent Authorities?

IF YOU WANT TO BLAME ANYONE, LAY IT ON THE GOVERNMENT THAT RULES KUALA LUMPUR. What has it done since it came into power in the 1950s?

Following the example of BN cyber-troopers who blame Wan Azizah for the floods in Kajang, we shall in return blame the BN Govt for the hailstorm today. LMAO.

Indeed, corruption and incompetence are so bad that the hailstorm spread to Selangor…LOL.

They now blame clogged drains. But who were supposed to clear the drains?

Clogged drains caused Klang flood, says deputy minister

PARLIAMENT The flood that hit Klang on May 15 was caused by clogged drains, Deputy Natural Resources and Environment Minister Hamim Samuri said today.

“The water level of the Klang River was low on that day, thus the flood was not caused by the river overflowing.

“It was caused by the clogged drains that were unable to channel the water swiftly to the river,” said Hamim.

Hamim was responding to an emergency motion brought by Charles Santiago (DAP-Klang) at the special chamber of Parliament.

Hamim said besides the high volume of rainfall recorded, the developments (of the drainage system) had failed to take into account (some) technical (aspects) that had resulted in the severe flooding.

“The construction of the drainage (system) needs to observe the guidelines of urban storm water management,” he said.

Flash floods: Probe into corruption in mega-projects

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will investigate possible elements of corruption in development projects in the federal capital, especially those involving mega projects, which might have triggered the recent flash floods.

Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the authorities responsible would be asked to conduct investigations and provide full reports on the incident to enable follow-up actions to be taken.

Ahmad Zahid, who is also the chairman of the Cabinet Committee on Disasters, said parties accusing each other of the problem would be ordered to sit down and find the best solution to tackle the issue.

“The best is to resolve the people’s problem in both the short and long term so that it would not recur. There should be no flash floods in Kuala Lumpur as the system and infrastructure for flood management were good.

Drainage system overwhelmed, minister says after flash floods

BY ANITH ADILAH

PUTRAJAYA, May 13 — The flash floods that struck Kuala Lumpur yesterday happened as the drainage system is not capable of accommodating rainfall intensity of over 80mm per hour, a minister said today.

Yesterday evening saw a continuous rainfall of 120mm to 140mm per hour intensity for two straight hours, according to Natural Resources and Environment Minister Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar.

“The culverts, which are the most important component of a drainage system, were built as such that they are wide on top but narrower at the bottom.

“Therefore when heavy rain falls continuously, the culverts could not withstand it and water will overflow on the ground surface and that is how flash floods happen,” he told a press conference here.

Storm gives KL a lashing, turns day into night

PETALING JAYA: A thunderstorm not only brought cool relief to the heatwave but flash floods in various parts of Kuala Lumpur on Monday.

Dark clouds were hovering over the city sky at about 4pm, blocking out the sun and causing the sky to appear like night.

The thunder and lightning soon followed and the rains came lashing down fast and furious.

Star Traffic reported flash floods along Jalan Gasing heading in the direction of Jalan Universiti.

Floods were also reported in Kuchai Lama, causing water in the drains to overflow and traffic to come to a standstill at some intersections.

Flash floods were also reported at the Awan Besar LRT station underpass tunnel at Bukit OUG.
