Sebuah kepala Keretapi Ekspress Rakyat terbakar berhampiran Taiping ketika dalam perjalanan dari Johor Bahru ke Butterworth malam tadi.
Menurut Jurucakap Bomba dan Penyelamat Negeri Perak, pihaknya menerima panggilan kira kira jam 8.43 malam tadi.
Susulan itu sepasukan anggota bomba bersama sebuah jentera dari Balai Bomba Kamunting dikejar ke lokasi kejadian.
Api berjaya dikawal kira kira setengah jam kemudian
Difahamkan hampir 30 peratus kepala dan salah satu enjin lokomotiv terbabit hangus dijilat api.
Bagaimanapun kesemua penumpang daripada sembilan gerabak Ekspress Rakyat terbabir berjaya menyelamatkan diri sejurus keretapi berhenti.
Sementara itu,menurut Bomba salah seorang penumpang yang juga ibu mengandung terpaksa dibawa ke Hospital Taiping kerana mengalami komplikasi selepas terkejut dengan kejadian itu.

TAIPING: For the second time in three days, a Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) locomotive caught fire, this time near Kuala Tanjung just after it left the train station.
A State Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said they received a distress call at 8.43pm and immediately dispatched a team from the Kamunting station to the scene.
He said when firemen arrived, the fire had damaged about 30 per cent of the locomotive. However, none of the passengers were injured in the incident.
