IPOH: Four men armed with a pistol and hammers robbed a goldsmith shop at Taman Desa Kenchana, Bercham here today and carted away jewellery worth more than RM250,000.

In the 1pm robbery, one of the robbers had pointed his gun at the shop owner, while his accomplices smashed the jewellery display cabinet with hammers.

Ipoh district acting police chief Superintendent Mohd Nor Rasid said the robbers then fled on motorcycles but two of them were involved in an accident with a car not far from the premise.

However, they managed to escape before police arrived at the scene.
