High-ranking cop among 7 nabbed for RM1.5 million fraud, says Khalid
Seven people, including a high-ranking senior police officer, were arrested over the RM1.5 million fraud case in Bukit Aman, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar said today.
He said the seven were picked up over the past two days in separate operations and will be remanded today to assist investigation into the case, where more than RM1.5 million meant for repair and refurbishment works at the federal police headquarters building, has gone missing through fraudulent disbursements.
“We arrested a senior police officer, rank and file personnel as well as contractors during the two-day operation,” he said after the launching of Sunathon 2015 in Bukit Aman today.
He said police have also confiscated several luxury vehicles belonging to the suspects and frozen their bank accounts.
Khalid said the discrepancies were found during an internal audit inspection.
“We are not going to tolerate any of this. We will investigate, even if it involves our senior police officers,” said Khalid.

RM1.5 million scandal in Bukit Aman exposed
Investigations are underway to find out how funds meant for refurbishment went missing via fraudulent disbursements.
KUALA LUMPUR: More than RM1.5 million meant for repair works at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman have gone missing through fraudulent disbursements, The Sun reported today.
According to the local daily, sources told them that the money was siphoned out in several dozen transactions with the forged signatures of two police directors and a civil engineer of the Public Works Department (PWD).
Federal police Commercial Crimes Investigations (CCID) deputy director DCP Hamza Taib confirmed that a report had been made and that an investigation was underway.
“It has been just days since our investigations began. We are doing our ground work which requires a detailed study of the relevant documents,” he told The Sun.
“When we are done with that, we will start picking up those involved and leave no stone unturned. We cannot disclose details of the case now as investigations are on going.”
Discrepancies were uncovered several months ago when the Home Ministry carried out an internal audit at the police logistics department and discovered that refurbishment projects costing about RM500,000 to replace fire-resistant doors and air conditioning systems were never carried out even though payments to contractors were recorded.

DAP wants MACC to handle Bukit Aman’s missing RM1.5m
Lawmakers urge Bukit Aman to hand over the case to the anti-graft commission for fairer and more transparent investigations.
KUALA LUMPUR: DAP lawmakers have urged Bukit Aman police to hand over investigations into the case of the missing RM1.5 million to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) so it can be conducted in a fairer and more transparent manner.
DAP lawmaker Lim Lip Eng said this today, citing a report by The Sun that the RM1.5 million meant for repair and refurbishment works at the police headquarters had been misused.
“It is not right for the police to conduct this investigation by themselves,” he said to reporters during a press conference.
Lim suggested that the MACC intervene in this matter and take over the case so a more transparent investigation could be conducted.
“MACC should step in and take over the case and the police should willingly hand over the investigations. DAP will not hesitate to file a report with the MACC should the police insist on investigating it on their own,” he said
Meanwhile MP for Ipoh Timur Thomas Soo said Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Khalid Abu Bakar should accept the suggestion as this could help restore the police force’s image.
“Such incidents are tarnishing the image of the police. They should get their act together,” he said.
Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi said that if the police insisted on carrying out their own investigation, there would be a clear conflict of interest.
He suggested they leave it to a third party so a transparent and fair investigation could take place.
