Medical officer charged with murder of religious school clerk
MUAR: A medical officer was charged at the Muar Magistrates court for murdering a religious school clerk at Taman Setia Kasih on Nov 16.
The accused Zurailie Muhamad, 30, who is married with one child nodded his understanding of the charge read before Magistrate Mohd Syafiq Mustaza here on Thursday.
Mohd Syafiq then set Jan 5 next year for the re-mention of the case as the chemical reports and post mortem results were yet to be obtained by the prosecution.
According to the charge sheet, Zurailie was accused of murdering Nurul Shahira Mohamed Yatim, 29, at her house located at number 85, Jalan Sungai Terap, Taman Setia Kasih in Bukit Pasir between 2.05pm and 2.30pm on Nov 16.
No plea was recorded and he was charged under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the mandatory death sentence upon conviction.

Police arrest neighbour for murder of religious school clerk
Johor police have detained a man believed to be involved in the brutal murder of a religious school clerk in Taman Setia Kasih, Sungai Terap, Bukit Pasir, Muar, on Monday.
Johor CID chief Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the 30-year-old suspect, who was the nearest neighbour of the victim in the housing estate, was detained at 6pm yesterday.
“The suspect is a government official who is married and has two children,” he said.
The press previously reported that a religious school clerk Nurul Shahira Mohamed Yatim, 29, was found lying strangled in front of the door to the master bedroom of her home in Taman Setia Kasih, on Monday.
Her body was found by neighbours after the engine of her Honda Civic was left on for four hours from 2pm, while the driver’s door and the front door to her house were left open, which made a neighbour suspicious.
Kamarul Zaman said the suspect was detained after failing to give a satisfactory statement during investigation. – Bernama, November 21, 2015.

The police have recorded statements from about 10 Facebook account holders to trace the culprit who had circulated text and photographs on the murder of a religious school clerk in Bukit Pasir, Muar, on Monday.
Muar police chief ACP Azman Ayob said today these people had shared the information and it had gone viral.
“The police are very concerned and will most likely call up several more Facebook and WhatsApp account holders to record statements.
“This was being done after the social media users ignored warnings and reminders from the authorities to exercise responsibility in such matters.
“As such, we are forced to take firm action. We ask these people to come forward because we will eventually trace them,” he said when contacted.

Nurul Shahira’s mother, Hayati Abdul Aziz, 56, said her daughter’s death was the most inhumane thing that she has seen, and hoped the police and members of the public could help nab the culprit.

SOCIAL media today is flooded with the story about a young female clerk who was raped and strangled to death at her own home.
Netizens expressed their sympathy as well as anger towards the brutal crime.
Majority have started to voice out their concern regarding women’s safety, especially those who are living alone.
They spoke on how the increasing numbers of crime have made women feel unsafe, even in their own house.

Six foreigners held over murder of religious school clerk
JOHOR BARU, Nov 17, 2015:
Police have detained six male foreigners to assist investigations in connection with the murder and robbery of a religious school clerk in Sungai Terap in Muar yesterday.
Muar police chief Assistant Commissioner Azman Ayob said the foreigners, all Nepalese, aged between 25 and 43, were picked up from a nearby construction area in Sungai Terap by a police team on the same day.
“The suspects were picked up in a follow-up operation shortly after the discovery of the 29-year-old female religious school clerk at her home,” he said at the media conference in the Muar district police headquarters today.

Following a distress call by a neighbour, a police team found the victim’s Honda Civic car engine still running, with the driver’s door open and also the house door fully open.
Initial investigationss revealed that the victim was strangled with a curtain tie-back cloth, with blood stains and a set of keys near her body.

Religious school clerk believed to have been murdered and raped in Muar
MUAR: A religious school clerk in Bukit Pasir was believed to have been raped and murdered at her house in Sungai Terap here on Monday.
Muar OCPD Asst Comm Azman Ayob said the incident happened at around 6pm at her house in Taman Setia Kasih.
ACP Azman said that the victim who was identified as Nurul Shahira Mohamed Yatim, 29, was found dead lying near her bedroom at her house in Taman Setia Kasih here.
“Initial investigations showed that the victim was found half naked and there was also a blood stain and house keys near her body.
“The victim’s belongings such as handbag, cell phone and personal identification documents were also missing,” he said in a press statement.
