Have-a-go hero accidentally mows down cops in snatch theft demo
A driver made a split-second decision to come to the aid of a desperate woman, seemingly the victim of a snatch theft outside the Bukit Jambul Complex, George Town, yesterday, ramming her attackers with his car.
However, as The Star Online reported, it turned out that the two thieves were in fact police officers demonstrating a typical snatch theft during a crime prevention event.
Cpl Zulkifli Mohamad, 34, suffered a swollen left leg and L/Cpl Mohd Zaidi Nayan, 26, injured his right arm when the driver rammed their motorcycle during their supposed getaway.
“I didn’t know it was just a demonstration, I thought it was for real. I acted out of concern,” said the driver, who declined to be named.
George Town police chief Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said that no action would be taken against the apologetic driver.
