JOHOR BARU: Barely minutes after robbing their victim, two robbers were killed when their getaway car crashed into another vehicle in an accident in Taman Pelangi last night. In the 11.30pm incident, the two robbers, aged 28 and 34, died on the spot after their car, a Toyota Vios, rammed into a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) pick-up truck as the duo tried to flee from the robbed victim who gave chase.

JOHOR BARU, Nov 10, 2015:

Two robbers met with a gory end in their gateway car minutes after they snatched a sling bag containing RM200 from a man in Jalan Abiad in Taman Pelangi here late yesterday.

The two suspects, aged 28 and 34, were killed on the spot after their white Toyota Vios, which was being pursued by the victim, collided head-on with a Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) four-wheel drive in Jalan Tebrau at 11.40pm.

The strong impact caused the driver to be thrown out of the car, while the passenger was crushed in the wreckage.

Johor Baru Selatan police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the incident started at 11.30pm when a 33-year-old male businessman alighted from his Toyota Wish to buy food along Jalan Abiad.

“Suddenly one of the suspect took out a machete, approached and threatened the victim before fleeing with his sling bag to a waiting Toyota Vios car driven by his accomplice and subsequently fled towards Jalan Kuning in the same area,” he said today.

Sulaiman said the victim immediately got into his Toyota Wish and gave chase.

“The suspects drove at high speed when they noticed that they were being followed,” he said, adding that the suspects’ car, going on the right lane of Jalan Tebrau, collided with the TNB four-wheel drive vehicle.

In the 11.30pm incident, the two robbers, aged 28 and 34, died on the spot after their car, a Toyota Vios, rammed into a Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) pick-up truck as the duo tried to flee from the robbed victim who gave chase.

The victim was robbed of his valuables and belongings in Jalan Abaid, 2.5km away from the crash site.

“In the incident, the two TNB staff who were in the truck both suffered injuries, one was injured on the head while the other sustained a broken leg. Both were treated at the Sultanah Aminah Hospital.
