Landslides occur on road between Tapah and Cameron Highlands
IPOH, Nov 9, 2015:
Minor landslides have occurred at a stretch between the 20th and 23rd milestones of Jalan Pahang from Tapah to Cameron Highlands, reducing the road there to a single lane, according to police.
Tapah police chief Supt Som Sak Din Keliaw said the situation was under control although minor landslides continued to occur due to intermittent rain.
A contractor engaged by the Public Works Department in Tapah was clearing the debris from the road, he told Bernama.
Tapah Fire and Rescue Department chief Kamarulzaman Busirun said a truck with five firemen had been deployed to the area.

TAPAH: Soil erosion at several stretches along Jalan Tapah-Ringlet caused a traffic standstill for about six hours when trees, soil and rocks fell on the road.
According to 38-year old stall-owner Jamil Din,the congestion started as early as 8.30am on Monday.
“The erosion caused soil to fall onto a petrol tanker, causing the vehicle to be caught by it. The driver was unhurt,” said Jamil.
He added that several lorries hauled the tanker at about 11am.
Jamil said there was a downpour the night before, which caused rocks, soil, trees and branches to fall onto the road.
“The rainfall last night was quite heavy. It had rained until about 11pm,” he said.
By about 2.30pm, traffic flow continued but was still at a slow crawl.

NO, THEY CAN’T GO HOME YET…
NST
CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Flood victims in Bertam Valley are not allowed to return home following uncertain weather in the highlands and the high water level at the Sultan Abu Bakar Dam.
Cameron Highlands police chief DSP Wan Zahari Wan Busu said heavy rain which started at 1pm today had caused the water level at the dam to rise and flooding the area for the second time.
“Even though the rain has stopped and water has subsided, residents are not allowed to return to their homes for fear of more heavy rain over the area,” he told Bernama.

A picture making its rounds on Twitter showing flood waters almost reaching the roof of a low-level house.
CAMERON HIGHLANDS: Heavy rains have caused a mud flood here, which hit Ringlet at about around 7pm Wednesday due to heavy rains, with a boy believed to be missing.
The boy is feared to have been swept away by flood waters, while up to about 40 houses have been submerged.
A spokesman from the Civil Defence Department here said the boy was stranded on a tractor near a farm when the flood hit.
He supposedly tried to get to safety but was swept away by floodwaters.
